On the Milner thing. He signed a new contract in the summer on reduced wages (reportedly a 50% cut), so there was clearly an agreement about playing time and phasing him out of the team and there is presumably an agreement in there with regards to putting him through his coaching badges and things of that nature. There is no way in hell that the plan was for Milner to get as many minutes as he has played, but needs must and he's featured in nearly every game this season due to other injuries. If all goes to plan James Milner comes on in the 80th minute of games, snaps someone, gets his customary yellow card, runs the ball into the corner flag, everyone leaves the stadium happy, and Jimmy Milner ends up being rolled into the coaching staff next season and spends the rest of his days screaming at the U18s & U21 whilst wearing a tracksuit.

Would keep Firmino and Gomez. More than ever a squad is needed to compete for everything and they still are quality players. Firmino now and then shows he brings something nobody else in the squad can bring whilst Gomez has just lost his way a bit. Once he gets some regular games in cups he could regain some form.

Joe Gomez's issue is that every time he comes back into the team he needs 6-7 games before he gets to a good consistent level. As an injury prone, back up option this just doesn't work. If he can go to a team where he's 1st choice and trains at a less intense level then there's a fantastic player there for sure. That said he is useful covering RB as well so I'd want to hold him until we know that spot has the cover we need.

Its the same as Ox, you cant expect him to have a decent game if he only come on as a sub for 10 mins and play so inconsistently (cup competition). He is available but was not trusted by Klopp last year especially towards the end.

The thing is he is easily replaceable, Skriniar and Ndicka are free next summer as things stand. Will cost more in wages than other options. If they want to keep an english player there are others like Adarabioyo as well.

I think I'd agree with most of these. My main concern is the midfield where we have a bunch of frequently injured, older players and a bunch of kids, the older players are great but they can't be relied upon week after week and the kids, although talented, are still learning their game and will get pulled apart by more experienced players. We just don't seem to have that happy medium of relatively experienced but dependable players.

Spot on about the ages in our midfield. They’re either the wrong side of 30 or barley even 20. It’s a tough spot to be in and the young players will come along, however in the meantime we may to spend on at least one player entering their prime years. That’s easier said than done though.

Before the purchase of Thiago the key criteria for the two midfielders slightly further forward than the CDM was their ability to cover for their respective full back and to close down the opposition. Historically look at the assists and goals that came from Liverpool's midfield under Klopp. It was practically non existent. ALL our creativity came from our full backs and that meant that opposing teams knew that if they stopped our full backs then they stopped Liverpool playing. Klopps now realised that! Yes he does need creativity from the full backs but he also needs them to defend. He also needs to have midfielders that are way more creative than they've been historically. Henderson/Gini/Fab worked well for a while, however that must be one of the least creative midfields Liverpool's had in living memory.

@Jay Anthony Liverpools main problem now is that they have a shit midfield. They have one of the best attacking force in the prem. Luis Diaz has been Liverpools best player he and Salah can cut in from the wings due to Firmino dropping back and playin a tad bit out of the box. Nunez needs a functioning midfield. Look at Halaand the majority of his goals came from midfielders he just has to worry about finishing. Liverpools best midfielder is Thiago and again he cant carry the entire midfield.

Gomez made a mistake against Everton that they hit the post from too. We definitely should keep him, versatility and he’s our 4th choice anyways. But he hasn’t shown good enough form to start for more than 3-5 games running since his big injury

As a Liverpool fan who absolutely loves what Trent brings to the team going forward, I still have to admit he is simply not good enough defensively. Teams have learnt the right side of our defence is our weakness and majority of the goals we’ve conceded this season have come from teams attacking that side. Saying slightly exposed is a major understatement, he looks absolutely woeful when teams counter us. In those early games where Thiago, Hendo and Fabinho were not fully fit, I personally would have liked to see Ramsey given a chance at right back and experimented with Trent in the midfield three. I think he could really thrive there

Ramsay has been out with an injury since he joined unfortunately. By the time he’s 100% so will our midfield hopefully, so there would be no need to put Trent in the middle. Plus Ramsay still needs time to develop in any case.

The problem is not not really that he is not defensively "good enough" - Robbo on the left is not that much better than he is defensively - but as Joe pointed out himself, that on the left side we've had Hendo/Milner/Thiago playing who have tracked back and slotted in; whereas in practically every game Elliot has played on the right, and he has not been able to track back and slot in anywhere near as well as the others; and then although Salah has been tracking back more, and working harder to halp out (as Elliot hasn't been - and this is a fundamental reason why Salah hasn;t been able to get into goal scoring positions as he has had to be further back), Diaz does that just as well on the left. And then on the CBs, Gomez is not as good as Van Dijk - which also does not help Trent. So we are playing very un-evenly, and it is because of this systematic problem that leaves us more at threat on one side rather than the other

2 mins in the video and let me just say this…. Twitter is the absolute worst place to get the idea of how a fan base is feeling. Twitter football is the most toxic, fake, place on earth. The only problem with Liverpool is we have aging, injury prone players. We need to move on from some but in reality 2-3 midfielders, a winger, and a RB are the only things we really need. Prefer younger 21-25 great value etc. Bellingham is likely to come, an attacking mid, another defensive mid would be nice. TAA just needs competition behind him to get him performing better defensively. Another left footed winger behind salah is needed

Tsimikas was almost sold to Benfica. During the Darwin negotiations, there was talks about Liverpool selling him once Benfica sold Grimaldo. Since Benfica couldn't sell Grimaldo for their expected fee, the deal with Tsimikas didn't materialize.

If they had more CB cover, I would have put Gomez in 'loan' There's still a talented Defender in there, but I suspect a mixture of his injures, lack of match sharpness and game time have really affected his confidence. I think he just needs a run of easy-ish games to play himself into form. I don't think a season long loan, with no option to buy, to Juventus would have been a decent move for all parties

Love that argument, "Trent is world class if........Van Dyke is healthy, Gomez and Henderson are covering for him, with the best one on one shot stopper on the planet and without the right mid pushing up too far and covering him". When you are world class, you're simply that, there's no need for what if situations. This is probably the best assessment of the whole Liverpool situation. Personally, I think there is nothing fundamentally wrong with Liverpool, it's just people kicking them while they are down. The biggest issue is the midfield and it needs to be sorted asap because there is no creativity coming out of it except for when Tiago is playing and he of course is injury prone. Honestly, I feel Liverpool have not been able to fill coutinho's position with a similar player. The midfield has just been functioning well as an organism but individually it lacks creativity.

Joe gomez has only had 1 bad gamer this season against napoli where only diaz was good, anyone who thinks getting rid of him before sepp van de berg doesnt know football, phillips was good against palace until that pass which no defender in world football would stop, both phillips and willams stepped up when we needed them, the problem is the midfield both keita and ox need to just go now, thiago for as good as he is on the ball etc isnt too far behind them, no point having an absolute baller when he is injured half a season every season

Klopp need to give Nunez more game times. Coaching team need to train team how to play him. The longer the drought drag on, the kid will lose confidence. He also need to keep his temper in check as every defenders will try to make him commit a red card offence. TAA need midfield cover when he join the attack up field. It is too much on his lungs to track back and forth between attack and defence. Put Gomez as RB and move TAA to right midfield.

Bastoni in place of Gomez Jude Bellingham, Joao Gomes(seen a bit on youtube after speculation and seems fine), Nicolla Barella in midfield. Khvicha(napoli guy seems fire) for the forward role. I wont mind selling Trent and get a fee as high as possible to cover all this transfers and get a decent RB like Benjamin Pavard or Denzel Dumfries for a cheap. Their passes and crosses wont be as accurate as Trent but they are more sound defensively and decent in attack too and we wont need that much creativity too when your midfield is Bellingham, Barella and Thiago.

Who were liverpool going to sign that is better than what they have. in midfield. I think they looked at the market and thought harvey elliot, fabio carvahlo , and curtis jones are all very good youngsters, and like even arthur ifurther down the pecking orders to these 3. Sure you could spend 50 mil on a midfielder (like gibbs white. matheus nunes) but iif everyone is fit, he wont start, and wont be much better than keita or the 3 youngsters. So it is better to wait.

Should've never sign Nunez, but since he cost enormous amounts of money and he's not performing so he'll be rot in Liverpool and become a heavy wage burden until his contract expire. Not joking but this mistake has a knock on effect on whether Liverpool are going to afford lucrative contracts terms for new players. One expensive worst signing can screw everything up and it's not exaggeration.

Not really a fan where modern football is going... emphasis being put mainly on the offensive side and only valuing "attracting" football.... also the fact that 2 to 3 player is expected to cover for a full back defensively and that is deemed as normal is scary

I'd keep Gomez and Firmino. Gomez still has potential but his lack of game time has been a concern. Firmino should still be kept, still a vital squad member. Assuming he stays injury free, he should be given a new deal. Regarding incomings, Bellingham 100% should be the main target. Sounds like Moises Caicedo is another Liverpool like. So could see those coming in and maybe one more slightly unknown player as well.

Bobby Firmino has another year or two at Liverpool. Why not shift him back to a CAM spot, and have him share the duty with Thiago, Carvalho and Eliot? Then we can have 2 deep lying midfielders in Fabhino, Henderson and Arthur. That way we shange things up a bit, and stop becoming soo predictable with only our fullbacks pinging crosses. Otherwise, am fine with every other decision made here. But maybe loan Curtis to Fulham or Bournemouth in January.

Trent is part of the reason midfielders cant play their normal role. With him in the side, they have to play CM and still drop deep and cover the wide area when Trent is playing like a second right winger. He's a Right Back who does no defending. It's abysmal. Yes he's quality and his technical abilities are top tier but then at that point why not then play midfield and buy a more natural RB?

Some bias it appears to be on TAA while I agree he is one of if not the best attacking right back in the world, his defence has been exposed by almost everyone this season, just recently against Brighton where he got exposed in defence twice leading to goals. Like you said he needs protection to play the way he does but you contradict your claim on him being so great when you say people like Elliot and Gomes won’t give him that protection. Ok than why does he not notice this and revert into a more traditional right back role? Does he lack the football IQ to notice this? Or does he not care and what’s to play his way even at the downfall of his team. While like you said he is young, he has to learn and do it quick, because right now his lack of caring and football IQ is leaving the right side of Liverpool exposed and if he does this against someone like a Man City he will get monstered by Phil,Grealish,Haaland and Julian. And they aren’t the only threat with Arsenal coming up next, he does not have the privilege of slowly learning he has to do it soon, you got to be able to pick this stuff out for example, Messi floats around the field depending on what formation and team they have he can go from RW, CF, CAM because he can pick out the times it is needed, the same as Cancelo at City he goes from a left back to a overlapping LW and even comes into the CM role if needed. Trent needs to learn how to look at a team and decide and switch from role to role.
