You've been a fantastic inspiration to me to get amongst the Buddawangs and local SE NSW forests. I'm carrying most of the kit you've got, and love your explanations for why and when..Keep it up please.

Dude, wrap your gaffer tape round the middle of your Sawyer, it saves space and helps stop the filter freezing :)

I been doing the ultralight thing and throwing all this kinda stuff in a gallon Ziploc bag... But after watching your videos I felt inspired to build a kit like this. Found a cheap medical organizer similar to this to give it a try. Great videos Scotty

Great vid mate. I love these vanquest pouches and have a couple of the fat pack style for Med kit and essential gear. One word of comment is to have one backup fire source and water treatment somewhere else on your kit or person (mini tin). You don’t want a (touch wood) loss incident with this pouch to take out all your critical gear in one go.

Maxpedition could learn a thing or two from Vanquest. The second row of elastic on the left side is a good idea. My Beefy only has one row on each side.

Scotty, as soon as I first saw you with that pouch I wanted one, found and purchased one. They are indeed an awesome bit of gear. I purchased something else that looked similar, but it's not even close to being that good. Out of all the tips, tricks, advice I've gained from your channel, that pouch is definitely my favourite.

Hi Scotty, love your channel! Wondering if you can camp on crown land during covid, we wanted to do the six foot track next week but the parks have now said that all camp grounds will need to be booked which isn’t up and running yet, looking for an alternative for a 3 night hike/camp if we can’t go, hoping that you or other subscribers might have some options for us 2hrs out of Sydney or so, cheers gary

With your power bank, if you can open it up easily enough, you might find 4x 18650 batteries of 2,500 mAh, that can easily be replaced. If I were going to replace them, I'd be looking at the Samsung INR18650-25R (about $6 each). There's a wide and confusing array of choices and this would be a conservative and reliable option, IMHO.

I’d be very interested to see a vid of what woods you have had success making fire from bow drill with, I’ve read that most Australian woods are horrible for bow drill, which is why Aboriginals traded grass tree around the country and made such a big deal of ‘carrying fire’? How realistic is bow drill in Australia? Thanks

interesting combination of wet things and not-so wet things. do you ever get dampness from sawyer bootle/filter etc getting onto camera batteries of fire lighting gear? Im not being picky, it struck me very early on and I am just interested if you have ever had any problems with water inside the pouch from the steri-gear?
@ScottysGoneWalkabout4 жыл бұрын
No I've never had any issues with that. Once I'm done with the water filter I'll give it a good dry before I put it back in the pouch.

G'day Scotty. Thanks for another great video. I did some googling and it appears the Fresnel lens is pronounced FRA-nel or something like that. I believe the S may be silent in the French pronunciation, the lens being developed by a French physicist for use in lighthouses. And here I was thinking it was just American's bastardising the English language again lol.

1000d is probably overkill ( in terms of weight penalty for a return in practical use ) for an EDC Pouch ... 500-700d will get you the same level of robust protection and few grams lighter and less bulk if weight saving is anything you care about. I'm all for going robust but even the TT Raid Pack MkIII is 700d ... grams = kegs and kegs = pain. If it works all to the good - I'd just go lighter material.

Is it illegal to take a multi tool / bush knife camping? As I have just got back to aus and am unsure
@SmithandWesson22A4 жыл бұрын
State laws vary regarding carrying knives. You will be required to show "genuine need" most likely - camping, fishing etc all should be OK as a reason. Hunters have had knives confiscated, but usually when they gave the police a reason - shooting from public roads, poaching on private property, unlicenced/unregistered firearms etc.
