Stay safe around level crossings: take a look from the train driver’s perspective

I live in the USA and far too often we have people and vehicles hit by trains. Sadly some are seeking to end their lives, some have vehicles that stall out, sometimes a truck or low trailer bottoms out at 'humped' crossings, some are commuters trying to get on the entry side of a train to get to work on time. Sadly also, some train operators are seriously injured or killed from such crashes, almost all suffer from PTSD from such events. My parents grew up in a railroad town, we had crossings in the town I grew up in, I live near and often drive at gated crossings with frequent commuter train and mainly at night freight trains. As a result I always take care, slowing down when needed and rolling down the window even if a gated crossing.
