48:00 Finally someone discussing Vitamin E/COMT interaction. The study that found this relationship was in women only - don't know if there has been research on men. Would be nice if someone would calculate what impact would be on cancer rates if people supplemented according to their genotype.

Carbonated beverage consumption increases ghrelin, the 'hunger hormone'. But ghrelin's not all bad - e.g., can protect liver against carbon tetrachloride toxicity.

There have been studies done that people with chronic health issues know they need to eat better and exercise. The problem is with execution which is why I don't buy into the "awareness" argument. Execution relations to the social determinants of health which have been eroding in the US and many developed countries. We need to address factors driving the cost of living so that people aren't working 2-3 jobs or going without.

I've had a couple of discussions w/ young smokers - their attitude was 'hope I die before I get old.' I can understand - if you don't have a lot of money, the future looks pretty bleak. Actually, at this point in time - the future looks pretty bleak for everyone. Mississippi river is drying up - what does that say about rainfall in the corn belt? Corn is drought tolerant, but there's a limit ...

@@rhyothemisprinceps1617 I think smoking will be a persistent health risk in North America. Smoking is more socially acceptable in developing countries. Given that North America has a high immigration rate, we're likely going to see more smokers of all social economic incomes. I agree with your assessment of the poor with a fixed mindset. If they don't believe that they have a way to improve their life, they are probably less invested in improving their health.

@@rhyothemisprinceps1617 lol no. This entire thread is silly. Most fat and out of shape people work less, not more. And temporary fluctuations in river levels mean literally nothing long term. A warmer world would be wetter and levels would average higher. It would also mean less extremes in temperature from the equator and poles, so less severe weather, which is driven by temperature gradients.
