Hota Elementary School is Japan's Michi no Eki (resting place), which is a renovation of a closed elementary school. It is an interesting facility where the gymnasium is on the market and you can eat Japanese school lunch.
Since it has an accommodation and a large communal bath, it can be enjoyed as an "elementary school where you can stay".
The guest rooms have blackboards and study desks, reminiscent of Japanese classrooms. It made us feel like we were in elementary school. Recommended for those who are tired of ordinary hotels or who want to stay in a unique hotel.

What a wonderful idea to reuse a perfectly good building. An old middle school in my town was no longer needed when I was growing up (just not as many kids enrolled), so they turned it into a local museum and a senior center. Part of it is now also a theater. A beautiful building kept alive.

Amazing repurposing of a building that otherwise could have just been abandoned! My elementary school back in the late 70s/early80s was a very small Christian school. My class every year had maybe 23 kids in it. My mother was the preschool teacher there. I was almost always a "teacher's pet". There were always a couple kids and I whose parents were teachers hanging around after school. Back then the lunch was pretty good! Found out 40 years later the gymnasium floor had a small amount of asbestos in it...we used to pick at it. During that time I was in elementary school, my parents were a host family for Japanese agricultural exchange students. We are still friends with a couple of them today! From what I understand, one guy apparently owns/owned the largest dairy farm in Japan!

A very clever and practical use of a vacated elementary school! I'm sure that this elementary school-turned-hotel provides guests a deep sense of nostalgia, particularly those who had a fond memory of their elementary schools. 😄 In addition, transforming this elementary school into a hotel injected momentum into the local economy and created additional jobs for local people as well. I have seen many videos on KZbin about how places became almost deserted after people moved to the cities for better employment opportunities. Great video! I hope that your stay at this interesting hotel brought back pleasant childhood memories! 😄

I love that the board has those faint lines ... really helps! Your handwriting is excellent! It would be perfect for a teacher (perhaps you are?) In my classroom, we do not have a chalkboard but what is called a "smart board" which is a huge white board. I teach life sciences and I rarely write anything on the board but CONSTANTLY use it as a projection screen.

Wow, such a big difference from when I went to school in the US in the 90's. Our food was just microwaved mainly, and wrapped in plastic. We didn't have a separate gym area, and we didn't have any flowers or pretty thing son our school! We also all ate in the cafeteria. We didn't eat in the rooms.

US elementary schools do have some differences (like usually there's a separate cafeteria rather than students dining in their classrooms, a paid janitor rather than students doing the cleaning, etc.) but the general look of the rooms, student desks etc. actually doesn't look all that different from the elementary schools I attended when I was a kid in the 1960s. I don't recall personally seeing any US school buildings converted into hotels, but I have seen some lovely conversions of old US school buildings into shopping areas as was done with the rest of the school you visited here.

Why was this school initially shut down/closed? It's great it has not been demolished and has been turned into something else and not left to rot and decay for urban explorers, and it's a shame other buildings have been left to be in that state and condition and not repurposed. It was good that a lot of the original features were left. I liked your visit very much. Thank you for a great video.

In schools in the US, you can bring your own food or pay for hot lunch. You can pay for hot lunch per day or you can pay by the week. I'm not sure if it's changed since I was little. I remember we had these pizza that you can only find in schools, and it was really floppy and you could roll it up like a burrito. Even though it was very cheap pizza and not really good most of the time, I still kind of miss school pizza. In US schools, we don't eat in the classroom. We eat in a lunch room in elementary school, which also doubles as a gymnasium. As you get older, in middle and high school, the lunch room is just the lunch room and the gym is separate from it. In the US, we don't switch out of shoes and into slippers, but in the winter time, we do change from our boots into our school shoes. In front of each class, is a bank of hooks to hang up our coats/book bags/lunch bags etc. and then bench to sit on and under the bench is where we'd store our boots. In high school we had large lockers which we had to share with another student, which could be pretty terrible if the person you shared with was inconsiderate. I was lucky, the attendance lady (who also took care of locker assignments) liked me. I had complained to her because my locker-mate allowed other people to use our lockers, which was not allowed. So, she paired her with another student and I got a locker all to myself for all four years of high school.

Hello! Japanese schools are VERY different from American schools! Our lunches are always gross. There were some days we got to eat funnel cake (fried dough with sugar on top) for lunch. Some days we had pancakes. But mostly it was things like chicken nuggets or pasta with strange green beans. Many students only had that to eat the whole day, because at home, they have low income :(. I was lucky and got to have lunch my mom would pack or I would pack it myself. I noticed Japanese schools have many floors and lots of windows. Every hallway looks comfortable. I can see why you could make a hotel out of one, for nostalgia and because the light is good. I am sure there are good schools in America, but mine were old and not well cared for. It would be strange to have a hotel in a school here, many Americans HATED school. Maybe one day our schools won't be as sad or scary. Either way, thank you for taking us! It was fun and educational to see this school hotel. Hope you're staying safe! ^^

But our school has something unique we do not sit from 8 to 1 and a half in front of the books we learn in motion it is really fun even we have two rabbits in a science class but it is not fun as it sounds there is a very bad smell and we also have activity breaks with wooden games, Sports and dancing games.

In my country, we change shoes outside the classroom, and we put it on a metal shelf, ( our shoes stinks ) , 2 students each desk, we have something under the table like Japanese primary school, to keep our books and notebooks and other stuffs, we put our bags on a hanger, attach to our desk. We usually have lunch at 10: 20 am , we just need to go pick a seat , because the cooks prepare our meals, after finishing our lunch, we have a small break , then we have a short nap. We wake up and hang out in our classroom until 2:00 pm, we continue our study , then another break with snacks, we study after the break and we go home. We have janitors in my school, and we have multiple breaks , like what I have told

3:53 in germany, pupils tend to make fun between a boy and girl by drawing a big heart onto the blackboard and write their names in it. in japan as far as i know, they tend to do the same, but instead of a heart it is an umbrella which is the same message - because only couples share their umbrellas.

In Germany elementary school is traditionally only till 12.10/1 p.m. So there is no lunch at school, you either go home to eat or eat at a "Schülerhort" -> a afternoon care center for students from age 6 till 12/13. This goes till 4 p.m or sometime 5 p.m. after which the students go home. In recent years we have the concept of "Ganztagesbetreuung" where students get to each lunch at school and the afternoon care is in the school itself instead of other places, but there are still no lessons in the afternoon, instead they do homework, play and do some activities. In my cities most of this goes till 4 p.m. after which the parents have to pick up the kids or they have to walk home. We also have differences per federal states, some of the 16 federal states had more of the afternoon care than others. So I would say: Elementary School in Germany is quite different to other countries elementary schools.

@@its_time_to_travel We do have afternoon classes from class 7 (12/13 years) onward. First once per week till 2.30 p.m, later than class 10 (16 yo) onward 2-3 times per week till 4 pm or 5 pm 😁

In my elementary school they taught us to eat eggs and waffles for breakfast and we had to bring our own food to school for lunch and snacks. I don't know but most of the children from secondary school and below in our country bring food to school, I think some schools still provide food. (Isn't the food at home better? :)

Most schools in Japan offer school lunches until junior high school💭 And most students like school lunches and sometimes fight over them😂 Thank you for your comment!!☺️✨

Hey It’s time to travel. Sim question but how do you use the Japanese style toilets

Thank you for your comment!☺️ Japanese-style toilets are used by squatting toward the lever. These are only found in older buildings. I haven't seen a Japanese style toilet in a long time😂

Well, for once, we didn't need to learn a couple of thousand glyphes to be considered literate. Also, back then in Germany, school mostly went from 8 am to 1 pm, so no school cafeteria. Those who were unlucky enough to have afternoon classes had to resort to local diners. They also tried to get us to clean our own classrooms, but quickly realized futility and employed more cleaners (which, back then in Germany, were exclusively female. They are still mostly female today, no comparison to more progressive countries.) Also, shoes were kept on from grammar school level (years 5 and up), only primary school kids had slippers.
