Staying present is an ongoing practice, explains Eckhart, which can be supported in ways that include following the breath, becoming aware of sensations in the body, and by cultivating "the Observer."

Slow down!! Why do you rush around so much. It's like a passenger on a beautiful cruise ship who races around the deck of the ship thinking it will get them to their destination faster. All you have to do is sit back and enjoy the ride. Next time you are walking slow down too half the speed. Notice how you become aware of yourself as opposed to be lost in thought. When you reach for something reach at half speed. You become aware of yourself in a new way. We are so heavily conditioned from birth that you must reject everything and examine yourself ruthlessly. The voices in your head will tell you to run hurry or you will be sorry. It's like a man passing a stadium full of people. There is a football game going on people running here and there and they throw you the ball and scream RUN!!! RUN!!! You try to explain you dont under stand the rules or even want to play but they keep screaming RUN!!! RUN!!! and so for the rest of your life you run, run, run but you never seem to be happy. You get the new promotion but the happiness doesn't last. You say I will be happy when______ fill in the blank. I get married, divorced, make my first million, become CEO, yet the thrill never lasts. The only way to be truly happy is to be in the here and now above time above thought. Then for the first time in your life you will have all the answers to all the questions. Like the Buddah who finally reached enlightment laughing and crying at the same time. Laughing because you realised how foolish he had been and crying because he realised how many are stiil prisoners of their own illusions.

Also , when I start on psychedelics I didnt know were I was getting in to. But they lead me also in a spiritual path after I try to end my life. I was someone with traumas not knowing how to stay present , how to accept pain and how I could transform negatives thoughts on good.. I didnt know that I was not my thoughts and feelings and after while since I start with psychedelics on my own..I was driving crazy with suicidal thoughts , the bad part Is that I didn know how to "turned in other direction" and that almost coast my life .Im so grateful for this , it was the way it happend , that happend . I dont regret because I accept it. ❤❤ big hearts for everyone. Stay still❤

This was oddly profound Most of what I got from this encounter was my lack of stillness kept me distracted from his message. At first I was like what is he doing. The heck but as I took the time to listen and watch I began to pace myself to him and felt it There’s a calmness to life that if we allow ourselves to engage in that calm and slow space we will be present there. The clock doesn’t matter. I think I get it

One+ year later...I'm so beyond my retched past history. I am free of thinking, in fact, I'm ready to take the test for Enlightenment - is there such a test? I've done a ton of work. Keep going, everyone. We must each find our unique path to full Consciousness and for me, it required much self observation, solitude, dream work and therapy. And yes, pain (emotional) and psychological discomfort.

My Experience of life Nothing is certain either in material or in spiritual world. So we should take the middle path which is the PRESENT MOMENT. From the present moment we can go to the past or to the future quickly in comparison to going from past to future or vice-versa. Only present moment is the YOGA or UNION of mind, body & intellect. My dear friends, life is too short for doing experiments like Gautam Budda but we can enjoy this life to it's fullest by assimilation of teachings & experiences of the great personalities in our life as advised by the wisest one "CHANAKYA". Remember! Life is too short. So do whatever you & only you like to do right now & your future will be created by the universe accordingly as per Newton's law of action-reaction. Happy New Year 2020 to all in the universe🌹🙏

Its amazing how you talk in a simple way of understanding.. I have to say a big thank you My boyfriend found your book Power of now in the summer , in one of Portugal beaches.. Its funny remember because in that time I was really struggling , i was on cycle that seemed not to end . I had a lot traumas , my parents couldn't supporting me in the way they should .. we had series financial problem..my father was almost in the streets , my mother has emotional problems ..my brother started to be addicted on drugs .. Was a mess , after everything I had the same thing on my mind , people are mean .. I can trust in anyone , its better not to feel ..I start to suprees everyting until I couldnt feel nothing good.. after tharapys and One moment I had psychadelic drugs. In a first moment everything was wonderful , I had my feelings again .. It wasnt necessary anymore pinching my arm to feel somehting .. I could feel everyting , and since I was in stage of my life that things were going good .. everything was perfect.. until the moment that everything that happened to me start to pooped in my mind every day .. past situations on trauma were arriving .. its was exhaustic..I did know how to accept how my life turned into .... it was really dificult to me In that time because I couldnt accepting the moment , the pain.. In that magical day my boyfriend brought that book .. and after while I start to read. It was incredible the way it helped me, everytime things start to change .. step by step I started to understand that I was not really in the present , I was thinking in something and rejecting what it was ... I always rushed for nothing .. I start to understand that we are the observer and what its observed . We really have to be in a netutral way otherwise its easy to be identifyed with our thoughts.. I know now that we are not out thoughts and our emotions and Im so grateful for that . They were days that I had to hurt myself to stop thinking and feel something.. With simple words you guied me trough this path .. I finished the book on the last month , after 10months.. Nowdays I'm aware of who I am , its hard keeping the foccus on now because I have lot of.work to.do , but day by day I'm dicovering more who I am and what is surrounding me. Soo big big thank you ❤❤❤

There were two children playing in the sand making castles. One of the children became depressed and started crying because he wanted to be a king but his castle got washed away. The wise man pointed out his sadness was due to the illusion he could be anything but a human being. When we wake up from our illusions in the here and now we acquire kingly consciousness and the world falls at our feet because we want nothing from it. All eyes watch as you pass because you don't seek approval from anyone. The world can never foo youl again because your not fooling yourself. You can be happy no matter what happens because you go with the flow if life which is always in the NOW. Your lover leaves your business partner steals all your money yet you consciously speaking because the word is not the thing are unaffected. Your sense of self is not caught up in it. You are truly free.

Thank you! Saved my life, your pointers… I lost the love of life before you came along I doubted everything! Now I know I am everything, hard to doubt what you are once you discover you are everything, but once you do it’s soooo joyfully easy, problem is everyone else is everything too!! But since they are not quite open to this essential truth, of our everythingness, , we find ourselves back to square one?! Unless we the few who are woken up go live on a mountain or a cave, or some isolated place… which now I am constantly realize I am going more towarfs…❤️🙏

Yes, a still mind...a silent mind...can be the norm in everyday life. It was not a choice really...for me. Thought just dropped away. The Present remained. I don't recommend cultivating "the Observer" or "Witness", because that is egoic and often very mental. You can mentally observe your breath, but that is not the same as experiencing your breath.

Whenever you listen and watch a speaker ask yourself is this person acting. Watch them carefully even as they walk off the stage. If they get to the parking lot and freak out because their car got dented forget everything they said. You can be aware of thought but you cannot think about awareness. Keep your mind where your body is because the body is here and now. Can you walk away from yourself. To find yourself you must lose yourself your ego self which is the false self locked in time and thought. Stop being falsely kind you just do that to get what you want from somebody. See yourself as you truly are stop pretending.

this is precisely the tendency you want to observe. 'Need to be quick', 'don't have time', 'video takes too long'. It's just thoughts. Is there really something soooo pressing that you need to quickly finish this video? What is wrong with just being here, and letting it take as long as it takes? :)

"You can trust everybody to behave according to their level of consciousness at any given time." True. Now what? No wonder the human race is never going to be able to wake up. We can never hope en masse to survive let alone elevate ourselves to the point of collegiate-ship necessary if we are ever to get out of the jungle. Maybe some of us will, on a 'one person only' level, if we grasp what Eckhart is saying. Ah! but waking up is one thing; staying awake quite another. This is an angle, not an answer. A beautiful one though and a help. The robots are coming and their 'mental existence persistence' is guaranteed to be more permanent than ours.

Well there's nothing wrong with slow have you heard of the tortoise and the hare. 👍 I found that practising being present comes hand in hand with being still, at least in my case. I'm well aware that certain martial arts allow one to become still whilst moving but I'm not very exercise conscious haha. Anyway The few times I think that I actually attained it, I found it too be a soup of sound vibration, awareness and awe.
