Stayman is one of the most commonly used conventions in Bridge and one of the most useful. It is the only way to find a 4 - 4 major suit fit when partner opens 1NT or 2NT.

It depends on what type of Stayman you play - you don't need 11 or more points - you could have zero points but just prefer to play in 2 diamonds, hearts or spades.
