The video is a breakdown of how to water / dust proof your steadicam gear. starting with protecting the arm, this one being a G70x with the tiffen rain cover. then covering the gimbal and the volt with a improvised cover made out of a generic dslr rain jacket. I also cover the top stage can camera with some trash bags and cover the monitor with some plastic wrap. i also go into protecting my body from rain as well. Hopefully useful for other steadicam operators, directors of photography, and camera operators as well as anyone into movie making, filmmaking and cinematography. Shot with a Blackmagic pocket cinema camera 4k
Demonstrated with a steadicam M1 volt, G70-x arm and Tiffen Exovest.
Take a look at all of my gear

Thanks for the shout out haha! I really wasn't expecting it! And of course thanks for the great video once again. You did butcher my name but it's ok all my north American colleagues do it for the past 10 years now :) Regarding bagging the camera itself I do have one suggestion for you though. Instead of 2 bags you can do the same job with just one. simply cut the bottom part when holding the bad horizontally, place it on top of your camera. Your camera should be completely covered now but with lose ends at the bottom. Simply clip those lose ends with bulldog clips to the rodes or anything else available et voilà!

Thanks! I'm a freelancer so I get hired for individual jobs and I do own the gear that I also rent to the show for the day. The shows provide the camera for me. I started out as a set PA, the lowest job. If you want to go for it save up a lot of money before hand. You won't make much money for a few years. Every day is pritty different. the arm can take 70lbs, but that's including the sled. And that's 15ish pounds. I did a live show today that I had it on for 2 hours. But on films it's much shorter bursts untill you start losing light hahaha.i try to practice every day but I'm sure there are better workouts.

Since I don't like wearing things under my vest (chaffing) I like to get a rain shell that I 1 size larger than true size, and sacrifice a side pocket to allow the socket block to go through. For my back mount vest I buy a shell 2 sizes larger and cut a vertical line up the center of the back, get a tailor to attach velcro to the back, and reinforce it. Now the carbon arm of the Klassen vest can come right out the back of the jacket!

When you go into low (underslung) mode with your steadicam, and you have a fixed position display at the bottom, are you able to see the screen well enough to keep good framing and horizon? I am trying to configure my rig and I don’t want to spend unnecessarily to gain a function that is not going to make much of a difference. Do you have a video on your channel on building out your rig?
@SteadiRed
@SteadiRed 4 жыл бұрын
yeah, I know what you mean. I started using a low mode monitor to make it easier to see but of course that costs money. so I also would put my monitor up on the post as high as possible and flip it over on the yoke. I show it in my Steadicam beginners guide part 2 kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5S6koWOp7OKlaM

I have a lot of problem with wind buffeting the recycling sacks that I'm using and because I'm a one man band covering rugby matches I have the mics on the side of the video cage picking up the flapping noise. The whole thing can act like a sail as well. So when I get the arm completed (building a 'steadycam' rig using a monopod as the post, so for the moment it's a monopod, a monitor, a battery, a gimbal, and a camera on it) I'm concerned that I won't be able to use this method. I'd be interested to know what the effect is like and how you counter it.

the wind is a problem for everyone. but the heavier the sled the more it will resist it.

yeah, thats a constant problem. you can use an anti glare screen cover that will help a little but the only real fix is a brighter monitor. some people still use the old green crt monitors because they are so much brighter then the lcd type. im not going to go that far hahaha
