Thanks, I helped build another one for friend last winter, same size different materials. The one I am using is to low for me, once spring comes here, I will take it out of the shop, cut it off and raise it up about 4 inches and weld it back together, to match my height.

The taper idea is genius. I wish I thought of that before I built my steady rest. Thanks for the video.

I hope you have an apprentice that can carry on the work you are doing for a long long time. That dog in the first part needs to know your filming and to be quiet :D

I think I do have a plan, lately often it put the basic plan at the end of the video, It may be there for the articulating arm, Did you check out the video of the lathe I built. I don't build things from plans, Just from ideas I have in my head and materials I MIGHT HAVE.

Two very nice rests you have built there Brian. Do you see any advantage to using 4 wheels over just three? I would be interested to know your thoughts before I build one for myself. I found your video because I was not happy with the three wheel rings and just knew there would be a better way! Also have you had any issues with the wheels marring the surface on your projects? I can see a black line on the vase at 13:05 which looks like it is from the wheels. Thank you for sharing.

Wow I really missed this one, too much dirt biking this summer, yes 4 rollers would be the way to go, easy to add or change to any position at any time. I plan to add a 4th one next time I use it.

I didnt quite get how the laser works. Could you do a video with details on that?
@brianprocter61914 жыл бұрын
Yes ia can, you noticed the post going up from the arm of the hollowing system, it goes up and then an overhead beam goes out and a lazer pointer it attached to it. shines down to the tip of the tool, one adjusts the beam away from the tool tip to give the wall thickness on the outside. simple to use, when the lazer beam just clears the project, time to stop. I have cut right through when I did not use the lazer. Disadvantage on the first steady rest because it blocks out the beam over the steady rest.
