I get asked if Football Manager should have difficulty levels a lot and I always say it should not. My reason? You make your own difficulty level on FM. The open nature of Football Manager means you get to decide who you play with, who you sign, and what you do. With that in mind, this video is about something that can make FM a lot more fun and help you live out your wonderkid hoarding fantasies in a way that feels like it could be realistic if a board focused on this approach.
It’s all a long-winded way to get the ‘I start in the lowest possible league because I like pain’ crowd to get over themselves. I love you. I am one of you. But, FM is a video game and helping people enjoy gaming is a core mission on this channel. So, let people have fun, and maybe when you’re feeling down, try a wonderkid collection save to lighten the mood and have a happy FMing out there.

'Promising' is what you are looking for, you can also sort out players with really bad like mentals, really low determination etc. or really bad natural fitness. But youth intake players I think will show promising etc. I've done this before but not to steal them on youth contracts, just to find players so you go through all the youth intakes like this of clubs with good facilities, add them all to a shortlist and then scout the ones with either 'promising' media description or just ones with good starting attributes/good personalities etc.

A small trick: If you pay the compensation, there is generally a sell on clause. So, instead of clicking "approach to sign", make a transfer offer (remove and exclude the sell on clause from the negotiation). Also the fee's even slightly cheaper this way. For example, they accept 550K if the compensation is 600K+100K+%15 sell on.

Pay attention to contract starting dated. The guy you were offering a contract to in teh exmaple would only join in 2027 (you're in 2024) due to rules about young players moving abroad. The salary is also too low for a work permit. So they join in 3 years time without a work permit. I stopped doing this as I found that too much of a gamble, not to mntion tedious, but it can be still worth it focusing on local players.

It can. You can sign and play youth players from anywhere. If you sign them when they're 18, they'll be homegrown by the time they're 21, and get English nationality by the time they're 23, meaning you can avoid all contract and WP issues by signing players at 18, giving them a contract that's either 5 years long or has an optional 5 years, or simply renewing their contract for 3 years when they're 20.

I am on FM 21 playing as Brighton - and I have done something similar, albeit without unhiding the hidden attributes. I didn't know about the Intake and trying to poach kids cheap - but I have accumulated 6 Wonderkids (1 suddenly dropped to 3 star potential so I sold him for a tidy profit) on my roster and we are lighting the Premier League on fire!

This is exactly what Barcelona and Ajax do to bring players in. That's why their youth setup is only exceptional from U16 and older. This is super realistic

Athletic Club and Real Sociedad are still exemplars down below that level with affiliates scattered throughout their region of Basque Country, but even the most effective of canteras/youth setups are poaching. In the case of these Basque ones, they're hanging around Pamplona.

problem with this method is that often besides paying a bit you also automatically give out like 5, 10, 15% of a future sale and when you´re talking about young kids who a few years later might be sold... that adds up to a lot of lost millions usually if a player´s fee is idk lets say ~600k you can sign him for like 1M easy, with most of that coming in future years and/or after X games/goals/caps (which he´ll never reach 9/10) so i just prefer to pay a bit more now (which i dont really pay as most of those payments dont even materialize) and not lose up to dozens of millions in future sales cause of the %%% good vid tho, it can work, but yeah, systemically going over to eeevery country is just overkill for me. but who cares, its just a game xD

Been doing this for years. I make a SL called YI(year) and add all of them. I usually check every couple of days when a good nation is having an in intake. Then you can sort by players that are on a youth contract. It is tedious but I find it fun.

I've been doing this for years and it's how I find all my best wonderkids, honestly the easiest way to build a dynasty. If you ask for a scouting report on all of the new youth intake players every day as soon as the day starts, your scouts will often have a prelim report ready by the next morning, and then you can just repeat that every day.

1 tip for people playing lower reputation leagues and trying to get yout intakes i.e. from Chelsea - offer player playing time. Like squad in 23, regular start in 24... because if you won"t, he will reject you. Tbh it"s understandable, in real world would you rather start your carrer in Premier League club, or move from you family to somewhere in Belarus. The point is, they will accept and even if you wont start them, you can just reduce playing time and if you have excellent morale in cabin, they will just drop concerns after captn talks to them.

Still trying to figure this out. So how exactly do I know who is a wonderkid? I dont see any attributes (typically I can see a range of people, then I have to scout them) and the media description doesnt say wonderkid for any of these players. Also when I went to sign one of them, the contract didnt start for another 3 years!! Im confused

It's called youth sniping and real clubs also do it. It's a grey line which have resulted in big clubs being punished for it multiple times. I usually do it for some clubs in Portugal when I play smaller clubs. If you're fast you can usually get a scout report before the clubs secure the players with contracts. I even managed to steal a guy that won the Ballon D'or 4-5years later this way while playing a save in Sweden 😛 (Liverpool came and stole him from me the same summer as his superyear of course... 😪 )

similarly i learned that teams in the US outside of the MLS (including their academy teams) produce a bunch of very good young players you can just sign on a free until they sign for an MLS team. a lot of them will be from smaller football nations too, i found some decent somalian and vietnamese talents through this!

Pro Tip: Here are some incredible US youth setups: US Developmental Academy IMG Academy Baltimore Armour Arsenal Youth San Diego Surf NC Fusion De Anze Force etc etc etc There are like 20-25 low level US clubs that tend to produce players with 110-140 PA. Obviously that's not going to cut in the Premier League or the Big 5, but if you're doing a "Build a Nation save" those guys are invaluable.

Get them on a trial the same date as they appear and you won’t have to scout the player(s). Works only if the club allows you to sent them on a trail of cours. Doesn’t work always.
