Good video, I like the name oddly, probably because the Platypus is a very uniquely weird animal - which is why Stealth Arms named it as such
@CompetitionChris
@CompetitionChris 10 ай бұрын
I'm guessing they named it the platypus because the platypus is kind of a otter but also kind of a duck. The platypus is kind of a Glock but also kind of a 1911. It's a mix between the two just like the animal is a mix between two animals

I've never seen one of your videos. That said, I really liked your review. I appreciated your honesty. In regards to this specific video, I felt like your opinions were well informed. Your pros and cons were concerns in line with my own. One of the biggest points for me was I don't think I ever heard you mention a price comparison to another gun. In an honest review, I don't feel like there is much of a place for cost, especially comparing it to another gun. I know how much guns cost, I watch videos to get your opinion of how the gun ran, not what it cost. I'm not saying costs can't be mentioned, it just not what I, personally, am looking for in a review, Thanks, great job. I'm now a subscriber.

Your comment about designing a reliable magazine is so accurate. The POF Tombstone is a neat idea. A magazine fed 9mm lever action. It uses POF's own magazines, but they're garbage. If they made it to accept Glock, MPX, or CZ Scorpion mags, they could have a winner. Even at $1,800. Great video!

I'm so happy you reviewed this one too. I've been very pleased with my Platypus as well- at just shy of 5300 rounds. The slide stutter you mentioned I've seen a couple times. I attributed this this me letting it get a little dry- but who knows. I also was a little worried it was going to be gimmicky. Very happy I haven't experienced that to this point. Great video Aaron.

If your Cerakote wears off, it means it hasn't been properly applied. Properly applied Cerakote should be extremely tough. I can't even think of a gun surface finish that is supposed to be tougher than Cerakote.
@jeffersondaviszombie2734
@jeffersondaviszombie2734 10 ай бұрын
I'll leave this here, from Sniper's Hide user Redcreek1, from a thread discussing what is the best gun finish, about Cerakote (because KZbin hates links): "Cerakote’s properties for rust resistance as tested using ASTM B117 Corrosion testing is over 5,000 hours without onset of corrosion. Hardness for firearms finishes it typically tested using the ASTM D3363 Pencil Hardness scale and Cerakote is rated at 9h, which is as high as the scale goes. In Tabor Abrasion (wear) Testing ASTM D4060 Cerakote withstood 0ver 8,000 abrasion cycles of an 8” abrasive wheel against 1.0mil coating Adhesion Cross-Cut Tape (ASTM D3359) shows a rating of 5b Impact (ASTM D2794) Cerakote withstands 160inch pounds of impact without cracking or loss of adhesion." Some claim QPQ nitriding is tougher, but: 1) that works only on steel, while Cerakote works on everything 2) claims corrosion resistance, but nothing beats Cerakote at corrosion resistance 3) claims increased lubricity, but there are Cerakote types for increased lubricity if you need that - increased lubricity on the outside of a slide or outside of a barrel is worse than useless.

Wonderful and very honest objective reviewing as always, Aaron! Agreed though, could use a better name, but I'm glad to see a shooter and I do mean a real shooter talking about this gun and giving it and Stealth Arms the love they deserve. I've had hands on with these for a while now and every gun has been a very good build with excellent quality. The gunsmithing side also appreciates that this gun is still very much a 1911 under the hood so any tuning is very familiar to any (American) smith worth their salt. I do agree it needs a new name though, but as to that name I myself can't really think of much that also doesn't sound corny or overused by other gun companies like mythical hybrid creature names, other normal animals, etc. ("Stealth Arms Chimera" sounds like a cheap Turkish gun for example)

I first clicked on this video several months ago, and clicked away about 7 minutes in for some reason I cannot recall now. Tonight I clicked on it again and resumed watching from the point where I had left previously. I'm glad I came back! You made a good video about my second favorite pistol. My absolute favorite is and will always be any traditional 1911 in .45ACP. I have three of those. I have two Platypus ( Platypii ? ); one bull barrel and one bushing barrel. When they finally release the other calibers they have said are coming I will probably buy another one in either .45ACP or .40 S&W. I have other double-stack 1911 type 9MM pistols, some less expensive and one more expensive than the Stealth Arms Platypus. They aren't getting shot as often because I enjoy the Platypus more. You are correct - this is a really good gun.

Would you recommend the bull barrel non bushing or the bushing version? Talk of the Staccato around the department. Of course drop safety is a problem, but if a 2011 is approved then I see this as a rational contender. Only issue will then being able to pair it with a Safariland Lvl ALS/SLS holster that works.

I got one because of how much you could customize the paint which I thought was cool thinking it would be more just a fun gun to play with.. I was so shocked that it worked well that my wife got one two lol I think it’s actually a hell of a deal for the price for all you can do to make it your own custom cooor and all that. Idk just my opinion

Their description specifically mentions that they retain the 1911 grip angle, so I find it odd you mention it has a Glock grip angle.

It's weird how the M&P uses metal mags with a polymer mag release without issues, but others have issues when the mag release is metal on polymer magazines and vice versa.

I keep looking for a review trashing this thing, and I can't find a single one yet. I only hope that by the time I'm ready, they won't cost exponentially more and have 1 year wait times
