a review of optics requires a demo of the optics.. not a strangers story about it...

Here is a little tip to cut almost 75% off that already very dim I.R. light on it. Get you a small piece of auto tint the stuff that is at the very minimum for legal limit on your car. Don't get the blackout stuff. Cut you a piece big enough to cover the I.R. Lens. Get a piece of clear plastic flexible and cut it to were its slightly bigger then the tint. Put the tint on the plastic, Then with a hot needle start punching holes 🕳 into your tint plastic combo. Not to many you want it to look sort of like mosquito netting. Now take you a little glue or adhesive putty and put it on 4 to 6 points around you tinted disc then place the tinted disc on to the plastic rim of the I.R. light casing making sure not to place it directly onto the lens but just the black plastic rim. Now it should be very hard to see the red I.R. light when it is on and it you want to remove it you can without messing up the I.R. lens! Your $100 Unit will become almost as stealthy as a very expensive unit!

how bad that cut the range on the light as far as useablity goes

@@LearnToSurvive574 It really depends on the size and amount of holes 🕳 in the tint film. On my unit I put one of these home made or DIY filters on with about 60% of the tint removed by punching pin holes thru it and I would say I lost maybe about 25% of my IR Night vision capability. But with the tint filter on you could almost not see that usual faint red glow in a totally dark room. Out in the field with cloud cover and almost pitch black with the tint filter on you are close to invisible at about 30 ft away. It's not perfect but it's CHEAP, Simple, Easy and if you don't like the results you can simply remove it because you are only attaching it to the rim of the device and not the lens itself. I've walked thru a pitch black truck stop parking lot with it on looking around and no one even looked my way as they walked within 10 feet of me. I made mine for free by using tint scraps and any piece of flexible plastic and a few drops of Elmer's Glue.

For the price its not bad and works. Keep in mind these were designed for hunting so dont expect MNV quality your not spending 4 to 13 grand on military quality gear here.

I got the same comment as everyone else. Years ago Wal-Mart sold me a Russian made military type monocular that was true night vision. For $300. This one though, is actually a screen you look at instead of a lens you look through. It projects an image of what's in front of you on the screen. I have a toy one I got a couple years ago there too, it's just a quality under this one. It's a camera too that uses it led lights like this one. Spy gear is the brand it is, the toy one. It don't zoom though. Lol.

The light isnt very bright on this its not like your gonna see it far away if your not close and not looking for it your not going to notice it. and the night vision your talking about that wal mart had was made by night owl from russian light amplifying tubes. my friend those days are long gone. getting a gen 1 now will run you 3 4 hundred on the low end that the light gathering tubes are close to the end of their life.

Seems like people are saying these would be good for hunting but not good for illegal activities

I got one and your right, I also have an older model made from a different company and it seems to be of more of the IR type with good range.

Do you know the name of the older one you have? it seems all these budget digital ones unless you want to spend thousands of dollars are not Invisible IR. Ive checked out Nightfox JStoon Firefield and a few others and they are all the same on the IR light. I remember back i the day late 90s early 2000 you could get a gen 1 type nightvision monocular for hunting that was true Invisible IR for a 150 to 250 bucks depending on the maker. I am lost why they cant do that now on the digitals about ready to go back to old analog if i can find one. Being a 1 income family for the most part makes buying high dollar items rough to nearly impossible unless i have time to save or can barter for it.

@Proud Beefeater now i will say this i am fussy about ordering eletronics on line its just me but nightowl makes a set that have a low grade light gathering tube strictly night vision cant be used in daylight. you can see short distances with out the ir light now if you you use the ir on it it will be like this one but with the low end light gathering tube you could use a true invisable external ir lighting sorce with it

Not the worst ive seen in that price range if you have 10 grand laying around sure get a military starlight and you will be better off but if you dont this will give you some advantage in the dark

You can’t be “stealthy” with it? It is literally called the “stealth” cam!?

Eight minute video for 20 seconds of useful content about the IR illuminator being non-stealthy. But that is what I wanted to know, along with a quick summary the overall viewing performance. I did learn something good ... just wasted 7 mins.
