Depending on how hard the A/C blows if it’s possible (maybe even with a clamp and an extended hose from a hardware store) grab a sheet that’s double the size of your bed. Tuck it in under the edges of the bed and if possible the top. The air will inflate the sheet and give you what I used to call a “vent tent”. I still do it from time to time in my house if it’s extra hot! Great content and hopefully this tip helps some van lifers stay cool! Love the content and stay safe out there on the road!

He reminds me of the opportunities with my parents. We were a military family and traveling from state to state in the Mainland was not by air. However, the packing they did for a station wagon and the comfort defined what we call stealthing. I kept that alive also in traveling from Maryland to other states for conferences. I look forward to the rest stops that offer many intriguing foods. My car is equipped with not only what is needed on the other end put also for safety when pulling over for a rest. His video’s offer additional suggestions also.

Was just van lifing in Key West during Christmas. Expert tips (since it's supposedly one of the "hardest" places to stealth camp): get a fishing pole and cast a line. If they knock, say you're fishing. But they won't knock. Another spot is by the church.. good luck sir.

Don’t forget to hit up the west coast of Florida on your way out. The beaches are far superior to the east coast. Not sure about the parking but i think you can camp at fort de Soto which is a state park in Tampa bay. Just over the skyway bridge. I live in Clearwater and we have one of the nicest beaches in the country.

Have a safe drive! I grew up in South Florida and one thing I've noticed about Florida is that it's very long state, if that makes sense. Like it isn't the biggest state, but it still takes a while to drive the entirety of it.

I built a business while stealth camping in Florida. Three best places are behind churches, emergency room parking lots at hospitals, furniture stores tucked in between delivery trucks, Lowes, Home Depot, Cracker Barrel in that order. As well I find hotels under Reno or new construction. My rig is white so melts in with construction equipment and industrial parks. Good luck!

Maybe DON'T camp in hospital parking lots? Sick and injured people and their families need those spaces, and if van people start using those spaces, it makes it hard for people who are already having a hard time.

@@itsROMPERS... You may want to go to a few emergency room parking lots at night. They are virtually empty. In fact, does not seem that ambulances with sirens coming at night either, Very peaceful. I do not advocate parking near the hospital. I always parked as far away as possible. In addition “camp”? Who said anything about that? People sleep thats all.
@itsROMPERS...

@@overlandecuador4872 Ambulances turn off their sirens around a hospital. Spending the night outside or in a vehicle is "camping". I have been to ER parking lots at night and had difficulty parking, that's why I mentioned it. It was merely a plea for consideration toward people underground severe stress and trauma. If you find that there are many open spaces, that's fine. But your comment was a clear invitation to others, which are many, to consider this a resource, which if people do, will fill it up. Don't do that to a fucking HOSPITAL! Van people don't have priority to everything. It's THIS attitude that gets people to call the cops on you.

Most Florida Rest Stops allow overnight camping. My suggestion is park at the end of the lane or furthest from the bathrooms; it's much quieter. Here's a thought; if it's hot and humid inside your van, then don't cook inside with the door closed. During the day, who cares if you are parked there and cooking? If you're worried, drive to the back of the lot and park with your door facing away from the plaza/shops. After eating, move to a different area. We RV pulling a small teardrop 3/4 of the year and meet many van dwellers and we all enjoy swapping stories. The one common theme we hear is bathroom and shower challenges. Memberships in nation wide gyms helps, as is using YMCAs if they are still around. Many places allow overnight camping - we've used Cracker Barrel Restaurants, Walmart, some Bass Pro shops can Cabela Outfitters will allow camping in designated areas, and there are more. By definition, stealth camping is the act of camping where people don't realize you are. If you park in a major parking lot all day, are seen coming and going from your van all day, and then remaining overnight, you are not stealth camping. I'm sure where you are parked has surveillance cameras so someone somewhere noted your arrival, coming and goings, and the fact you remained overnight. The only folks we've talked to who have had issues were those who first 'assume" overnight parking was allowed and second acted like they were camping by setting out chairs etc. If you're respectful, most shop owners don't care. You might get a added benefit by just going in and asking if you can remain overnight in their lot.

Ryan, you can make your portable air conditioner much more effective and efficient. If you did this, you probably wouldn’t need to have a hose on the cold-air outlet, and you wouldn’t need to keep moving it around to blow directly on you. Instead, the entire interior would be cooler and drier. And the A/C would produce less condensate. BTW, this observation also applies to other portable miniature and room air conditioners that have only one hose leading to the outdoors. The way you are using your Zero Breeze is with only one hose to take hot air from the A/C out of the van. But… all air leaving the van is replaced with an equal amount of air drawn in from outside, so you are bringing in a lot of new warm moist air. It’s the same as leaving the doors and windows open. All air conditioners have an inlet into the cold-side and an outlet from the cold-side, plus an inlet into the hot-side and an outlet from the hot-side. Currently, your inlet to the hot-side is inside the van (i.e., on the body of the Zero Breeze). To cool the van more effectively, you would connect the hot-side inlet to a hose to draw in outdoor air through the hose -- instead of through the van. By stopping new warm humid air from being drawn into the van, as the air in the van recirculates through the cold-side, the interior of the van would steadily become cooler and drier. When I Googled to find out what people thought of the Zero Breeze, many were very dissatisfied with how poorly it cooled. Actually, it’s doing exactly the amount of cooling it’s designed for, but by drawing in outside air through the van instead of through a hose, it’s being forced cool excess warm humid air. This is a waste of cooling capacity. Users would have better results if they connected a hose leading directly from outdoors to the hot-side inlet.

lol those condos do look depressing. I wish I didn't have anxiety issues and sleep issues...... it kind of restricts what I can do with life (I know i know....its an excuse but its true enough to me that it makes a difference) so I like watching someone just be able to kind of go with the flow. I do plan on travelling once I'm a little older but it will certainly cost me a lot more money. Keep doing what you do man. I actually had a very bad anxiety issue last night and was worried I wouldn't fall asleep and I watched a few of your videos and it calmed me right down. It's refreshing that you aren't just showing highlights of you having champagne with your extremely attractive friends to try and convince people that van life is perfect. Well done man. Still looks really cool though.

Heck you definitely could have “stealth camped” on my driveway especially considering you were pretty darned close when you drove by. Haven’t been to Key West for a few years but I know once I see your video from down there I’m going to want to take the 5 ish hour drive down really soon.
