Glad to see you got the freezer defrosted lol. If you wipe it out frequently to prevent moisture buildup you should be able to keep it from getting that way again.. Humidity from keeping it open too long can cause it to buildup faster.

What a fantastic fishing guide to take you to multiple spots, help clean the fish and appear on camera the entire time. Good job on the tip and it's a great idea to help promote tours and local guides in areas since they were all hit hard the last couple of years. Will you plan to do a fishing tour in Alaska too? The salmon tours up there can be pricey but super fun.

Another tip for catching Red Fish as soon as you feel a nibble on the line do not immediately pull back on the pole....wait. If the Red Fish does not feel any resistance he will stop nibbling at it and bite the bait then pull back to hook him. There is also a special way to setup the hook/leader and bullet sinker. I will try to describe how it is built. First a hook, then attach a 1 foot steel leader line with a swivel on the opposite end from the hook. Slide a bullet sinker on the fishing line and attach the line to the other end of the swivel. The objective is to take the hook start inserting the hook on the underside by the tail and route it through the dead shrimp so it comes out on the underside near the head. When you cast the shrimp the sinker will hold the line/leader on the bottom. When the Red Fish finds the dead shrimp he will nibble at it if he feels any weight or drag he will not bite it. That is why you use the bullet sinker the line will slide through it and the Red will feel no drag and bite the shrimp....then pull back on the pole. Hope this helps for next time and for those reading this comment. Fred in Texas (originally from Florida).

That charter captain was great! He had you on them, just bad luck but that's how it goes with fishing. Those fish looked so good. Once you get to Alaska, you should do a charter to catch salmon. And btw, Shreveport has a ton of stuff to do in Louisiana, the Bass Pro Shop there is really neat.

To add to the other unsolicited refrigerator advice, freezers like that are ice magnets in humid areas because the freezer bit is often a cooling unit, and the ice will get manky. I grew up before frost-free fridges. lol Any chance for after-the-fact general route info for map nerds? Looking forward to the trip north...I (and thousands of others) know what we'll be doing for the next three or four months!

So satisfying to see you defrost that freezer ;) As I'm sure a million people told you, that's what we had to do all the time when I was a kid and in to my 20s. I still have to do my chest freezer now and then. I really enjoyed this video. I've always been just frustrated with fishing that that actually looked fun.

Nice Video. I did a similar drive (drive and dive) in my 21' chinook, last year two days before Thanksgiving (2021). I was supposed to go SCUBA diving and meet the charter at that same "Bait Shop". However, it was too windy and they cancelled (without notifying any customers). I watched a fisherman cleaning a cooler full of crappie he caught in St. Petersburgh area (a fresh water fish) that he was planning on serving on Thanksgiving. He indicated that was the best fish cleaning station in the area. I am thinking about returning with my boat in tow (reason why I purchased my Chinook Concourse as the V-10 can tow 5,000 lbs) and SCUBA dive "Diving Circle of Heroes" and fish the area. I am still resisting cooking "INSIDE" my motorhome (don't want to smell up the furniture), and frequently use a small NuWave Induction cooktop (I also have a 4KW Onan generator that allows me to run appliances and Air-conditioner (as well as portable heaters). Have a safe and enjoyable drive through Florida (I am in Texas).

Just started watching..I liked this fishing episode and your fishing guide was cool! Planing a trip to Tampa with the fam. We may contact him? You were asking about fun things to do in N’awlens..I had a work contract there to Pier Diem sucked so I made sure my company had me a room with a kitchenette or there was a grill (or both) but I can say I learned a lot of hole in the wall eating places that served great lunches..you know the places the locals go! MardiGra will be in full swing so trying to park anywhere downtown is well dodgy? Out at bridge city or Avondale is where I worked and stayed mostly. Spent awhile near Metarie too but not so sure about that. I have traveled a lot in the 48 and I see you stop a lot at rest stops. There is a hack I have heard if you really wanted to take a Power Nap that afforded a little more security…Hospital parking lots?
