See.. That's why you should crack your step 2's AFTER setting up your shelter. But 2 for 1 beers... Totally understand. Cheers!

Again you guys demonstrate enjoyable decision-making. 2 for1 beers balanced with travel distance. FWIW, I would have brought you some food/water at Lock and Dam #1 if I'd known since that's only a couple miles away. 😃

I use Krylon Camo paint on everything. I don't buy anything that is not natural colour. If I don't disappear, I can at least "not stand out". Facing the door of the tent away from the field of view also helps with the stealth factor. I had a friend do some professional camo on my Sportspal canoe. It was so good that I could not find my own canoe...very upsetting.

Ya our orange tent wasn't ideal for stealth camping on this trip. But it did come in handy during hunting season!

I've been in the line of fire before and wished I had an Orange tent. Hunters don't like my camo.@@PepandJambo

Just found you guys. I paddled the entire Upper Mississippi in 2021. Unfortunately, I did the entire 1.5 mile portage in Minneapolis. I used a C-tug cart and the plastic axle got so hot it melted off before I put back in at the Bohemian Flats. The videos bring back fond memories and make me long to be back out there and finish. Only people who have done it can fathom how hard it is.

Wow! That's a HUGE portage!!! You must have started in the summer months? Where did you stop your trip?

@PepandJambo I started at Itasca in May. I had intended to make it to the gulf, but by the time I made St Louis the river had gone to flood stage. I was sketched out by the crazy currents caused by the high water and wing dams so I decided to quit at Cairo IL. The river was so fast my average speed after St Louis was 9mph and I was averaging just over 60 miles a day .
@PepandJambo4 ай бұрын
@@tracygreen2549 9 mph is FAST in canoe. I can't imagine how intense those wing dams could be during flooding. Sounds like you made the right call! Safety first. The fastest we did in our canoe, and only an estimate, was about 7 mph just north of Memphis I think.

Totally enjoying this series and am looking forward to your weekly releases... well done you two and thank you for taking us on this journey! Just curious, what guide book/website/other did you use? (I think you generically mentioned a resource in one or more episodes)

Sorry man, we like to say portage and its clear that you like to say portage instead. We've met lots of people that pronounce it portage but on the other hand lots of others who also pronounce it portage! Tomato/tomato or portage/portage I guess!

French word, they are Canadians, might occur to you they are actually pronouncing it correctly? Notice they sprinkle in French phrases, "je ne sais quoi". Remember the Voyageurs, pronounce it as you will, carry on!
