#2, Logistics sound similar to backpacking. You need 2 cars or a loop trail. Otherwise it's out and back. I haven't been on the water in years but I used to do out and back canoe trips. Paddle upstream first then back to your start point. The paddle back is always way shorter.

True, however, I have used a facebook friends, liveries, and Uber many times and that is a heck of a lot better than an out and back, so not necessary to have two vehicles especially when going solo.

Great tips. I like rivers too! I always be sure to take along a pair or two of comfortable socks and dry shoes or sneakers packed in a dry bag. Having dry feet at camp is soooooo nice.

@jasonwish- Actually, I think this is one of your best! I have watched almost all your videos, and it's refreshing to see an instrutanal one how it's done. Not only are you an awesome backpacker, canoeing enthusiasts, and, best of all, can run a huge farm! You're my go-to channel to get me out of the rainy day blues!! 👍👍

I’m in portage county by camp high in Hiram. My parents own property going to the river and I want to launch downstream with All my gear and camp off the river behind my parents house. One side of the river is public hunting and the other is my parents property so it’s pretty secluded. Thanks for making this video because it gives me more confidence to try it out.

Another option if you have no shuttle available is to park at the take out and paddle/wade upstream and float back later. A minor level of cardio is needed to do this. I usually stop and fish while going upstream. This allows me to rest on the way upstream. Enjoyed your video!
@jasonwish-
@jasonwish- 3 ай бұрын
Thanks. That would work ok on a short run with shallow water but in most cases would not…too many deep, fast moving water sections. Just depends on the river and how many miles you want to paddle I guess.

Great video Jason! Kayak camping is so much fun and I feel like at least in Ohio it’s really not very common (though with it’s challenges I can understand why). We love kayak camping especially when we go further south to Virginia or the Carolinas. Thanks for sharing bud.

It would be nice if the laws on camping on river banks in Ohio were more friendly to us that's for sure! But, I don't mind traveling out of state to find great rivers and camping options, there normally better than what we have anyways! Thanks AJ!

As a local native of your area, your videos and feedback has motivated me to kayak camp. Last year my father in law passed away and i found this to be a big push to enjoy the beauty and tranquility that kayak camping can offer! One day i hope to cross paths on one of our trips as you are on the same waters I am. Safe journeys Jason.

Great video. I’ve been kayak fishing for a long time. First thing I learned was “leash it or lose it”. I’ve seen hundreds of dollars in gear lost to the River gods. I’d also add , especially for solo yakers to practice self rescue. It’s not as easy as some people think.
@jasonwish-

Great tip Tim! That is something that I have not even done. I've been pretty foolish on the water many times and am fortunate that me and Colonel have not had worse things happen to us. I'm approaching $1,500 of lost or ruined gear, no excuse for that.

@@jasonwish- I use to do a lot of saltwater kayaking. You learn quick not to underestimate the power of water. Yea I lost a pair of Costa sun glasses 😭. I now use a floating attachment . Kayak camping is so much fun . Looks like you’ve been to some cool spots. Have fun and be safe and Tnx for sharing your tips. 😎✌🏻

I own my own business and it’s kind of a double edge sword, I can usually make time to do things like that, but it also keeps me very busy during the summer months and hard to get away during the best weather. It’s great river, hopefully you won’t have to wait years to paddle it.

I have done a few small sections of the GMR. Its very murky with muddy banks and slowwwww moving water for the most part...not my kind of river. It acually begins just down the road from me at Indian Lake spillway. I have thought about kayaking the entire river someday but the conditions would have to be just right. Thanks for checking out my channel!

I’m on oxygen 24/7 but I have small portable tanks that last 4 hrs each or medium tanks that last 8hrs . So I’m going to try some 4-5 hr trips in Kentucky where I live and see if it’s possible. Maybe even pick a place where I can kayak for the day then get to a hotel for the night and do it all over in the morning

Georgia dnr rule is 10 feet past water’s edge. Not all landowners know this. So we’ve always went past private property as a courtesy. And nowadays people worry if someone is close to their home, I would be too. There’s to much natural river in South Georgia to enjoy not to share. I’ve been camping on the Satilla since the 1970s. Charlton county does have a no camp law locally because of abuse.
@jasonwish-

Thanks for sharing those laws on Georgia rivers. I know there are many great rivers in your state and we hope to make it down there for some winter kayaking eventually.

Which river in Ohio is your favorite for hammock camping?
@jasonwish-
@jasonwish- 2 ай бұрын
That's a great question...probably the Little Miami. The Mad River is not only really overgrown on the banks but the banks are also very high in many places and more conducive to tent camping on sandbars. I do remember some pretty good spots on the Scioto River for hammocking too. I can not recommend the Kokosing since it is nearly all private property along the river banks but it would also work for hammocks as well if you didn't mind stealth camping.

Thank you for the response. I live in Loveland, OH just minutes away from the Little Miami River. I haven’t done much kayaking in the area yet but plan to do a few overnight trips in the coming months.
