VANCITY VANLIFE

6 жыл бұрын

We have been living full-time in our stealth cargo van with just the basics. nothing fancy and we are loving every minute of it. Van life has been awesome for us. We are still learning new life lessons everyday. We live in a 2004 Ford E250 Stealth Cargo Van. Stealth van living has been awesome. I hate the term stealth van. Lets just call it a van that blends in. its less creepy that way hahahaha

If you do the small roof vents, do two, and wire one fan backward so that one vent pulls air into the van and one pushes air out. That should give you great ventilation!

I totally agree! I spent my first 3 months of van life living in a minivan! Took out the back seats and added a cot. Put all my stuff in plastic bins under the cot, which also added back support! It was great! I was very comfortable! No I have my cargo van, The Betty. I'm slowly adding living space improvements. It's fun and adds a real sense of accomplishment. The build has been fulfilling and we'll worth it! Great videos Chrome! Love your ideas !

I lived in a small SUV for six months (still take frequent trips and sleep in the back) and made many of the same discoveries that you have. True "needs" are few, and less is better. My only recommendation would be to add a "house" battery wired to your van's charging system but capable of being isolated. It will be a huge help when the time comes to run a fan all night. Also, run everything off DC if you can. Inverters waste a lot of energy.

You are a good dog owner, it shows, keep up the great videos, this one touched my heart, you can tell how much you care for life and your pet. Try 3 days a week cooking,(you don't need a kitchen) or heating your own meals, see if you notice a susbtainial dollar drop and more funds for your travels. Roof vents are a dead give away, your van looks like a van, not a RV Van Dweller, and you fit in everywhere. You do have two jobs , dj and you tube. so don't discount your working.

Not only the rent savings but also it costs money to go back and forth to work 8 to 5. Not to mention all the debt acquired all the time. You may find a little more savings if you do a little cooking though. Although I wonder if cooking odour might be a problem on cloths and stuff. I imagine certain foods would be ok. Like soups and veggie burgers and stuff thats not stinky like fish I guess.

I have been in my van for 2 years now so going into my 3rd year in April. However because it gets down to -40C or colder sometimes I have chosen to rent a room in my sisters house for the winter months. I did think that I would do a vlog when I began but decided that if I do, I would wait until I retire in 3 years. Plus, I am not sure that I want all the trolls that Chrome was talking about. But I am delighted to share my ideas with anyone who asks and am always open to learning from others. My van changes all the time, especially this time of year when I get the itch to be back on the road...just a few more weeks :)

Max air fan can be opened when it rains. Insulating the van helps keep the heat on and the heat out in summer. With battery you could connect it with a battery isolator so you dont drain your vans battery then a small dometic fridge. It keeps adding up. Get rain gutters for the front window then water wont get in. Screen door screen with magbets to keep bugs out

Even if your house is paid for it's still a chunk of money with utilities, insurance, internet, cable, maintenance. I think about selling the house everyday and climbing in the Toyota rv and heading south. It's funny but most of the other van dwellers videos are all about the same format now, show food , talk about stuff, show scenery, show what they buy , more food, rinse and repeat next time. Oh and the majority are in Arizona going to the same places. It's nice to see the Canadian scenery there and it seems relaxed compared to the states.

Although I haven't watched your journey from the very beginning of the weirdness...lol, you had me at hello...Weirdos...lmao 😎 You have shown a whole lot of other Weirdos that one can get 'er done and still get on the road, in their own form of Adventure or Survival Stealth Wagon...lol.... and they can do it very quickly and efficiently without any excuses, and can move to live the life they want THEN, not WHEN...lol. Simple is best. Frugal for the win...lol. You sure have inspired me in so many ways, Chromee....you and that little dog, too....lol. I suspect you have motivated so many more hesitant potential "content providers", wanting to experience a Home on the Roam for themselves, as well as to share the experience, such as you have. Hell, with all those new Weirdos "bringin' the brave" and all, starting new channels now?????, those trolls are gonna stay pretty busy.....The Newbies, too, those that are "KZbin New" will experience "The KZbin Gauntlet" just as everyone does...just some more intensely than others, depending on their talents, looks or past history, that they themselves served up and shared with those that watch and take their notes for a later agenda. Thanks for keeping it real.....simple....lol. Have a fantastic weekend, Chrome. 🦄

Chrome I need your advice. I'm heading into the van life myself very shortly so I've begun looking at vans. Most of what I find in my area are some really trashed out cargo vans. Most of these vans have extremely high mileage and they've been beaten all the hell inside. But I found one that has all the whistles and bells that I would like except for two setbacks. One is the color it's not the bright white but rather black inside and out but it's exceptionally clean inside. It's the perfect size and would be just right for me. The next set back is the mileage it's got a 198k. Could you advise me from your own personal opinion if it would be a van worth buying?

Boo Boo Some vans run forever. Can reduce risk by finding out what repairs have been done (timing belt) & see if any records of regular oil chgs. Test the trans. And look for any leaks.. Generally go for less.. But could be fine

Hey BooBoo, FeedBack is giving some good advice. The other thing you might do is if you are in the part of the country that has a AAA Diagnostic Center you could take your finalist in for a complete check up. They do a complete work up, take pressure readings on the engine and go over it with you. It could save you from buying a dog. Once I took in an SUV and the mechanic who went over the results said frankly, "Don't buy it" and went over an estimate of what it would cost to get it safe & shipshape.

Thanks all great for you but if and when I get on the road I will still have my business to run. So I need all the tech stuff in it. And I actually want all the bells and whistles because I worked hard to get them. Everyone is in a different place. I don't currently pay rent or have a mortgage. My property is paid for. The only thing I currently pay is my property taxes, heat/electric and the water bill. Then of course the other stuff I would pay anywhere like cell phone, vehicle insurance, health insurance, food, gas etc. So I bought and paid cash for a new van that is loaded with all the tech. I feel better knowing I pretty much do anything in my van. I can cook in my van, I can go the bathroom in my van. And I can work on my business without having to go someplace to use their electricity or wi-fi. If I had a DJ job like you then my setup could be like yours! Maybe someday things will chance for me. BUT Like you said it's so cheap to live on the road that I might decide to do something more simple. Something that takes less of my time. It's great that there are many different way to do the vanlife. Your way does look very good!!

The word is your frugal, for me that means I'm making better choices. Cheap for me means attitude and motives? I have a deer Asian friend that lived your life and taught me about being frugal amazing human being. Very very giving and caring and very private. Went from a popper to a millionaire. Her motives or grounded and reasonable. Your life was full on many many levels and it wasn't due to or money it was due to her motives and beliefs. Go for it.
