To me, your whole setup is the standard that we need to try our best to duplicate, well done all around.

Always enjoy your videos. You recently inspired me to buy a handheld radio to start learning on. Very clean craftsmanship! Not sure if you have plans for WITW but I’m trying to fix my MK7 and make it.

I've never been one to attend WITW. First, I try to avoid gathering where road-going antics may bring unwanted attention to me; second, it's a lot harder to find my car's photos in the TOTD website when it's filled with other Golf-bodied cars. HAHA! I visit TOTD on most other weekends during their photography season. Thanks for visiting!

Oops! I forgot to put a link in the description. It's there now: www.forgemotorsportoverland.com/collections/vw-alltrack/products/mk7-golf-alltrack-hood-light-bracket. Take care!

Can you tell me the installation depth of the NMO antenna base linked in the video description? I am looking for a base that is as flat as possible…
@StealthGTI

If you're looking for the depth beneath the mounting surface, it's approximately 3/8". I can measure if you need a precise distance. I don't know of any that are more shallow than that. Thanks for visiting!

Tell us again, how do you route the cable to the cabin?
@StealthGTI
@StealthGTI 11 ай бұрын
In the video, it shows where I run the cables from the engine bay's air plenum, through the fender, and then into the cabin through the rear door seal (though nothing specific). I also point out a grommet below the A-pillar that I'd like to use in the future. Thanks for visiting!

Was going to ask why you put it on the passenger side and not the drivers side but I see you have an antenna on both sides of the car. I was always told if you have only one lip mount, put it on the the drivers side so it's less likely to be snagged by trees, etc when driving down the street.

Good eye! I think I'd still put the antenna on the passenger side to keep the RF hazard just a little farther from me. My hood-mounted antennas are not tall enough to hit tree limbs. Take Care!

I'm curious as to how the mounts attach to the vehicle. Did you need to drill any mounting holes or modify the lower windshield cowling?
@StealthGTI
@StealthGTI 11 ай бұрын
No drilling. There's a segment where I mention bonding with the hood. These brackets mount using the hood's attaching points. So, install them one side at a time so that the hood does not fall off. Thanks for visiting!

Thanks for the response, I obviously missed you saying that in the video.

@@stephenkramme7063 - No worries. I didn't actually say the words, but the video shows how they're attached. You would have missed it if you looked away for a few seconds. Take Care!

Now that you’ve had your trip to HamCation, how are you liking the mounts? Does the wind caught by the antennas make them vibrate at all? I’m a new ham and found this video while researching how I’m going to mount antennas on my Silverado. I’m thinking this is the direction I want to go. Also, where did you pick up those 3/8” Nmo mounts?Thanks for the video!
@StealthGTI
@StealthGTI 11 ай бұрын
The antennas are solid. However, the bulk of their weight is at the bottom and the whips are free to move. I don't think the 3/8" NMO mounts are a good choice for a heavier antenna with a top load. As for the part, see the video description for links. Thanks for visiting!
