i just came from watching another informative video of yours...my question is regarding the back hitch cargo holder,.. obviously depending on what you have back there,did the things you were hauling interfere with opening ( raising) the hatchback? i have a rav 4,and i thought of are things im carrying going to prevent me from opening up the hatch back....

thank you so much for all your information,advice,tips on these cargo boxes....one thing you said that made me realize how true it was,was the back of the car cargo box,will block the view of the rear camera we have on our car,and that i cant interfere with since my wife relys on it 100 percent ( i tell her not to,but shhh,women are women,ANYWAYS! ha,ha)..thanks for your video,it was very helpful...

It is correct . I do the very same with most rigs . The ft897 works very similar. Fill up the memories starting at 1.830cw then 1.840 lsb 1.855am (for manual atu) 1.920 lsb 1.950lsb ,1.960 am (again atu tune up ) . And same for the next band at the end i fill up 60m spots . Then a few SWL broadcast etc . Just same as you i mostly never use vfo a or b once i get the memories all filled .

I guess we can all create our own definitions of what reliability means to us. I had a Jetta years ago and was in the dealer so many times during the first year that I got rid of the car and got a Subaru, which never had to be brought in. At that busy point in my life the time-wasting inconvenience was the definition of unreliability. Having said that, I have always like VWs and am actually considering a new Jetta at the moment because #1.- It is not a CVT transmission, #2. - I think it is a great value in it's segment, #3 - I like the style and comfort. Soooooo, I would like to know if the current Jetta is considered far more reliable than those of the past. All comments are welcome. Thanks for a good video!

Reliability means not replacing your water pump twice a year. 😂

I have a subaru forester with a 175 pound tongue limit and with the cargo basket so far back and weighing around 60 pounds, it's a little questionable what you can safely put on there, other than some bulky pillows maybe :). I saw a suggestion of running a ratchet strap from the end of the cargo tray to the rooftop crossbars (if you have them). In theory, it would reduce some of the cantilever forces on the hitch/subframe, especially when going over bumps.

Your the first person to land on the moon!! 🤣you know it really doesnt make sense that elon musk and people want to colonize mars and eventually terraform it. Why not terraform the moon? Youd have basically the same challenges except the distance to the job site is way closer. As far as the coolant goes once you fix that oil in the coolant issue it wouldn’t hurt to do another flush. Whenever you replace coolant you always have to bleed the air out of the system because there are places where the air can get trapped. If air can get trapped, then oil can get trapped on the surface of the water in those same places. Of course the likelihood that there is a significant amount of oil that is going to do anything is pretty much zero
@StealthGTI9 күн бұрын
I, too, wonder why we don't colonize the moon first. I wonder if there's more meteor impacts than the public knows. As for the air pockets, I appreciate the advice! I had already planned to flush the coolant the day before I visit the shop for repair. That way, everything is about as clean as it can get before it's drained. Thanks for visiting!

Nice video and congratulations on the milestone. My 2017 Sport is about to reach 100k. I’m starting to notice suspension clunks. And I’m going to change the PCV valve soon. I need to look through your videos but do you think I’ll notice nice quality of life improvements by replacing the shocks?

I don't know the nature of your "clunks." If you ride is suffering, then it may improve with new parts. But I cannot give you anything concrete since I'm still on original equipment. See my 8-Year video for more. Thanks for visiting!

Where did you get those roof rack mounts that hold the antennas on the corners? The mounts specifically that hold the GMRS antenna. I have a similar rack on my Tesla and would love to mount my antenna on there instead of my trunk with a mag mount.
@StealthGTI13 күн бұрын
I found those mounts to be just a little too flexible and prone to rusting, especially around the area that I had to drill new mounting holes and repaint. Today, I have K-400 mounts, but with the trunk lip plates removed. Don't buy the knock-offs such as what you might find on Amazon. They're painted where they shouldn't be and will slip. Get the real deal from a Diamond Antenna dealer. See my "Antenna Farm" webpage at ke4wmf.com/ke4wmf-antenna-farm/ for updated photos. Thanks for visiting!

I own a 2016 MK7 6 speed 2 door and it only has 52,000 miles… so far water pump replaced, brake fluid change, oil changed (liqui-moly) and basic maintenance done. It’s dead stock with just a cold air intake and haven’t tuned because I’m nervous it’s my most reliable car 🤣 I own 3 other Germans so I try to keep this one as reliable as possible. But you sir are a total badass and I love all of the knowledge and your passion and love of importance of being on top of your maintenance is 👑 your daughters and wife are lucky to have such a wonderful inspiration and so badass your GTI is awesome! German cars require maintenance for longevity. It's how Germans engineer things. Thought out tolerences The Japanese cars are definitely more reliable in the sense of neglected maintenance. A lot of problems with VW audi etc come from poor maintenance. There are a ton of knuckleheads out there who don't do it. And then blame the auto manufacturers. There no reason any modern car can't do 150k now a days. Of course odd ball issues happen but a VW is def more fun than a Toyota.

my fan was dying, it would stay on for about 5 minutes, turn off, and click a few times. the only thing i wish this video could show better is how you practically have to be upside down with your head under the fan to replace it, and how it twists off and comes out, maybe also showing how exactly the clips pop off. The most important part has your hands in the way. You articulate it well, but a close up of how to undo that would have made this much more "beginner friendly". However, simply the news, hearing you say it was mostly toolless gave me the confidence to drop $230 to go pick one up at my local VW dealer, and replace it in front of them in the middle of winter.

Thanks for the feedback. Most of my videos are "How Did" instead of "How To" videos. ;-) If you've replaced your fan, you might be able to speculate that getting myself, a camera, and appropriate lighting on the floor for that shot is quite a challenge. I'm not saying that it cannot be done, but this isn't that kind of channel. I'm just an average man with a camera; not a full-on automotive maintenance channel. HAHA! I'm glad my video was helpful enough. Thanks for visiting!

Hey Scott! I enjoyed your video. I'm a new sub. I'm do a lot of biking on the Capital trail, Maybe I've seen you? I've been into Ham radio since 1971. Not continuously though. I'm considering the FT-891. I like how you can set the output per mode. I have a remote tuner that I tube with 10 watts, some rigs I've had I had to always reduce the power to tune then back to 100 watts for SSB. @kserye082918 күн бұрын
Hello Sir, can you still carry passengers towing around 1000 lbs?
@StealthGTI13 күн бұрын
I can! A 1000-lb trailer adds just 150 lbs to the car's suspension (10-15% tongue weight). The GTI's cargo carrying capacity, that which is supported by the car itself, is ~990 lbs. When my daughter was a new Marine, I moved her and a fellow Marine to their first unit. The car was loaded with ~680 lbs of meat (that is me, my wife, and two female Marines) and all of our luggage and their gear was in the trailer. I estimated the trailer at 1000 lbs. The ride was fine and the car even had some zip to it when I decided to pass a slow-going car on a two-lane highway. Thanks for visiting!
