Steam Deck killed Micro SD Card via formatting error? Here's a fix to properly restore and reuse it

For those of you who don't want to sit through 5 minutes of rambling Steps given: 1. Remove SD card from SteamDeck 2. Put in Nintendo switch 3. Format 4. Remove from Nintendo switch 5. Put back in steam Deck 6. Format it again 7. Hope it works this time

Switch said its unable to access the sd card, seems its really bricked. Second card the deck fried, totally unbelievable. Put 70 dollars on sd cards alone on this system and im completely pissed off

I cannot believe that worked- holy shit I tried literally every other thing to save my 1TB SD card. To think the fix was sitting right there in front of my face. Nintendo's so weird, but this worked so I'm not complaining

I've heard it may take a long while on the deck especially if you've used it before. Just be patient till it changes.

I did this with my Android phone. When it asks you to format, format it as removable storage and it'll go into exfat and complete the process. When you put it in the Steam Deck, it'll recognize it but want to format it. Go ahead, it takes a while, and done. Works. Even if you don't have the Deck do it, it should just work since it's exfat when you're done with the phone.

I've been fighting with a brand new 1tb sd card all day, formatted it using the deck first, everything seemed to be going smooth until I tried to switch a game from my internal ssd to the sd card. After waiting an extended period of time the game had still not transferred and wasn't showing any signs that it was in the process of transferring so I canceled the transfer, ever since while in game mode the sd card is not available. It seems to show up while in desktop mode but will not allow me to reformat so it will be visible in game mode... I've tried everything I know to do including the process in this video and it just says error: unable to format sd card... I'm soo frustrated I just want to break the damn thing. It's ridiculous to pay for these "high tech" devices and you have to be a damn computer engineer to install an sd card. If anyone has any advice I'd sure love and appreciate to hear your thoughts... at this point I'm thinking I'm just going to have to return the sd card for another, but I still don't even know what went wrong so I don't have much faith it cant/won't happen Again 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Thanks, it happens to me when I used a micro SD card reader to do torrent download via the type c usb. However, I do not own a Nintendo Switch & used my Xperia 5 III to format it, now Steam Deck able to recognize the micro SD card again. Lesson learnt try not to use micro SD card reader for long connection

My steam deck about month ago bricked my sandisk ultra 1tb 120md/s sd card and I returned it to Amazon as I thought it's a fake one after I tried every method to rescue it and not work. Till today I afraid to buy any sd card and using it on deck because of this serious problem 😵

I’m having the same issue, I have a sandisk 1tb A2 and it refuses to use it at all. I put it into my switch and the switch can use it but my steam deck won’t format it at all.

The other KZbin videos on this are garbage. I’m desperate enough to try this but I already formatted it. The card was working well. But all of a sudden the Deck wasn’t reading my SD. I’m like WTF. There are moments where it would read or recognize and then there are moments where it won’t show up. This is very frustrating and my major complaint about the Deck. I’m using a $120 SD card. These things aren’t cheap!
