This is actually a pretty cool system, I think I would have added salty ice water to the condenser, like with making icecream, the salty water getting colder than the ice, possibly extracting more steam,,,, Thank you!!!

Hi, when extract oil out of hydrosol you will need solvent like hexane to mix with hydrosol and then separate from the water. The separated hexane contains oil need to be distilled and leftover after distillation is the extracted oil. Normally you will need large volume of hydrosol to extract in order to get noticeable amount.

Is there any chance of an explosion due to the pressure buid up in the kettle?

Actually there is no pressure built up inside the kettle because there is an air path through the plant bed and the condenser. Therefore no explosion due to pressure can happen. Also, because the plug is hand tighten so it works as relief valve to release pressure in worst case.
