Steam JUST updated their rules on AI games (oh boy.)

I am DEEPLY sorry y'all, I was sick and didn't get the time to respond, but uh, i made a fatal error about the whole "ban all ai stuff in steam". Was it done in bad taste? Yes. And while i DO think that the tech behind AI is cool and such, but i just don't like the idea of AI Generated content being into steam, which, lets face it, While AI art/content is "impressive", that DOESN'T mean its "good" on the same level as human skill also. Now, will it improve in 2025? Maybe, but you get my point. I think everyone can share their opinions and thoughts and freely, but to me, i think the general consensus is; "Hey, that looks impressive, just dont try and, y'know, replace human artists, mkay?" Again, i deeply apologize for the words i said, ad they, lets face it, not every good. And also yes, i understand that Valve has acknowledged the issues with AI and they have addressed how they're gonna manage it in their blog, but you get my point. (and also them for shutting down TF2 and portal fan projects, while TF2 is filled with bots, TF2 having game breaking updates, and such. thanks valve!) Any who, yeah that's that. If you have some thoughts about what you think about AI such as, "Is it good or is it bad?" Let me know in the comments. And with that i will be off, peace. -Vander.

I feel sorry for all the small indie developers who actually put care and hours into their work hand crafting what's arguably an artistic experience who are now going to be stuck in a sea of ai generated bloat. I guess asking Valve not to fumble their shit is slowly becoming way too much to ask.

I posted a comment on the Steam blog post imploring them to not go through with this (Call To Action), explaining why AI leads to stolen work (Supporting Evidence), the impossible difficulty of users and Steam support stopping illegal games (Logistics), and how it will cause a lot of frustration with Steam customers trying to just buy games (Appeal to Brand's Nature). Hopefully, enough Steam users do the same instead of just letting things stand.

I agree with a lot of what you said, at least surrounding AIs that use stolen content. However nowadays there are many ethical AI solutions such as Adobes. Banning ALL AI content would be stupid. Take the finals for example they built their own voice AI made from voice actors who were paid for this exact thing, should that not be allowed? What if someone were to use copilot to fix part of their code, should their game no longer be allowed on the platform? As long as they make sure all AI used is ethical(does not use stolen work) I think that this could turn out good. However it does sadly sound like they'll basically allow any AI garbage on the platform which obviously would be horrible.

The thing is ai games cant be distinguished and i can already see ai games in steam their policy never stopped them and removing it wont increase the flow much except the initial period which we are seeing rn
