If it helps, Drive shafts are used to transmit mechanical energy in modern parlance this usually refers to vehicles. A power shaft is a type of drive shaft and as far as I know refers to the free or excess power not used to turn the compressor in a gas turbine, which is the usable work that the turbine is able to output.

Hmm... hey Aavak, is there any way to produce charcoal from wood you get, and/or any way to plant more trees? Because that should be a good renewable method of heat generation for smelters or whatnot. Same query regarding processing coal into coal coke for greater effectiveness and higher heat.

@@KainYusanagi In the first episode he literally did that, turning wood to charcoal In the second episode he spoke about replanting trees and how it would not be ideal considering how long it actually take to regrow them Seeing as this is a "realistic" game I reckon that waiting 20 or so years to regrow trees for wood to turn into charcoal is very hardly optimal

It's good to see devs who appreciate KZbinrs and those of us who watch them. With complicated games like these, watching someone else play is a huge benifit for our own play, especially those of us who aren't as creative. Recent Sub here too. The game mechanics represented for power generation is actually quite nice. As specially the differentiation between high pressure steam and low pressure which u got only from mods in factorio. So on the “driveshaft” there are blades connected so it results in a turbine. High pressure steam flows through the blades and voilá the turbine is spinning. Off curse you loose energy in this process that’s why your output is low pressure Steam usually this will get reused put back in to the boiler and reheated that’s then called superheated steam. Which has a much higher temperature but lower pressure value. The superheated steam gets then put back in the turbine but not in the same part. At first through the medium pressure turbine part and then the low pressure turbine part. Below the low pressure turbine sits the condenser (“degasification”) and the condensed water will return to your feed water pump for reuse in you’re boiler. Btw the turbine itself is actually a underrated “flywheel” it self. When we get an malfunction in the boiler and have to disconnect the fresh steam supply to the turbine ( the turbine is spinning at around 3000rpm depends on where you live and what frequency your grid uses EU 50Hz US 60Hz) it takes quite a while until it drops under the point where the system breaks the connection to the generator. So usually we can solve the problem in time and restart the turbotrol system to speed up the turbine with fresh steam and connect back to the grid. Jesus…I could write all day long about that. Just my 2 cents here
@Aavak3 жыл бұрын
You'll be happy to know that the game seems to follow this system fairly closely; as you go deeper into the tech tree, you will be able to reuse the low pressure steam in a low pressure turbine, and then eventually condense the 'depleted' steam back into water to be reused in the system :D
