I lived close to Simonstown station in 1975 Took the 05h25 train in the morning to Woodstock station and took another train to Maitland where i worked On black South Easter the waves would bashed against the windows from Simonstown to Muizenberg so we akways kept the windows close Felt more like riding on a boat than a train was great days Thanks for this memory lane video🥰

What a lovely train ride we all had. Lovely to hear and see the steam train again, and then of course the sea...the sea that makes Cape Town so great. Thanx Curtis and Sonia and for the quick glimpse we had of Sonia. I have said it before but i will say it again...I think I was a steam engine in my previous life..😊

Your excitement was quite palpable ..... I could feel it in Stilbaai! I was just as excited taking that steam train excursion with you being a steam-head myself. Those beautiful wooden-clad compartments brought back memories of travelling on the train overnight between Johannesburg and Durban/Cape Town/Port Elizabeth as a child in the 1960's when going on holiday. Thanks for an awesome excursion to the SA Navy Festival in Simon's town.

Wow !! 👍Thanks very much for that trip down memory lane. I used to travel on the Southern suburbs trains from Diep River to Kenilworth. The line alongside the coast is just stunning. You were so lucky to spot a whale🐳. It was a wise decision , especially for Sonia, not to join the que of thousands at the naval base. I think those two lekker cold Castle Lagers more than made up for missing out on the harbour tour🍺🍺. So nice to see the old steam engine and the carriages all in such good condition.🚂🚃Curtis jy is n stoute kabouter en jy weet hoekom. I hope Dusty and Sandy give you a good telling off🧸🧸. I will say no more 🕶😎😂

This was such a treat for me. Where are those days when I used to travel this route regularly. As a child we took family outings to Simonstown by train, all the way from Bellville. I used to live in Plumstead. Just up the street from the station. Many times we climbed on the train to take that tour along the seaside. Kalk Bay was a favourite destination. So many unique and beautiful shops. And The Brass Bell, where we would sit in the captains cabin and have a drink and watch the waves through the window. Fishoek was another favourite. Ice cream on the beach. Glencairn had an awesome pub overlooking the sea and we would treat ourselves to lunch there. So many beautiful memories of those times with Roger. Lovely to have the steam train experience. My dad would have loved that. Thank you. It's tears with a smile for me❤❤

I agree - a charming couple. And to me Sonia's voice sounds like Glinda the Good Witch's in 'The Wizard of Oz'. Now I wonder if that actrice was South African. But I could listen to both Sonia and Curtis all day.
@DustBugsTravel23 күн бұрын
Sonia certainly bewitched me a long time ago already. 🧚🏿♀️🤩 It doesn't look like any of the Glinda's in feature films were South African.

Hi guys this video ticked all the boxes for me and I could see you were right in your element Curtis. Loved the interior of the train lounge with bar excellent. All the stations were spick and span !!! Funny Plumstead is a superb in South Cape Town and the same in South London. But I would say the one in SA has the best views. Great luck again to have the navel ship firing as you arrived in Simons town. Always real life on dustbugs ride in a tuk tuk and aflat tyre .get back on the train and you spot a whale 🐋. The views are amazing and then the breath taking beauty of table Mountain. Shame you couldn't get to see the ships in the navy yard. But it didn't take away from this video as always love the banter and laughter. Thanks for taking me along cheerio till the next one.

Oh this trip was fantastic !❤ It made me sad because those areas I know from when my Dad took my Mom and I on holiday there a few times. We stay in St James at The Gordon Hotel. We took a train from St James Station or Muizenberg Station to Cape Town to The Castle in +/- 1973. Wish I could have that time over with them 😢 Thank you so much ❤❤

Greetings from Bergvliet, Cape Tow. I did the Elgin trip with a friend in 2019 when Claire was previously known ad Dominique and then I did the trip to Ceres with my family last year with Claire running solo. I will ad mit that I gravitate more towards the steam locos that are coal burners but I do understand why Ceres Rail have 2 oil burner 19Ds because the Elgin and Ceres Routes go over the mountains where there is a risk of wild fires in summer.. I never got the opportunity to do the Simons Town trip under steam with Atlantic Rail back when they were still running because I do Ballroom dancing every Sunday and the sessions take place during the time of the return run from Simons Town. I loved their Class 24 loco, Jenny, and I really miss her now as a Ceres Rail loco, since she is now running trains in the Mossel Bay area.
