Not just Mickey. There are other iconic characters that started off doing questionable things like this. Mario for example originally had a game called circus on game and watch where he’s essentially abusing donkey Kong and it’s the reason he breaks out and becomes the the antagonist.

What a lot of people forget is that Walt was a real human being from a different time period who made mistakes. We can’t just expect people to be perfect all the time, even those we look up to. Regardless of his mistakes he still understood what made the company get its “Magic”. During the company’s golden eras, they had a very understandable reason to be as successful as they were.
