Had the privilege of seeing Steamhammer on the swathe at Worthing Seafront around about '68. It was the first time the stuffy old Council had agreed to allow live music there - must have shaken them to the core! This was the number they started with, with a bass amp that shook the ground - fab. After all these years, this is still my favourite rock anthem.

You rarely ever come across such a well-composed blues song. I am speechless still, after about half a year of listening to this song everyday. Nobody could play the blues like Steamhammer. For more awesomeness of that sort, I would highly recommend checking out Climax Blues Band's "Seventh Son" and listening to it until the end. It is equally good as Junior's Wailing. These two bands definitely deserve more attention.

Steamhammer was Freddie King's backing band whenever he toured England. King had good taste.
@rogerc1711
@rogerc1711 3 ай бұрын
Not quite: they backed him on 1 tour, & I saw them at Klooks Kleek, Hampstead, round about 1969. Support act then was Killing Floor, who Freddie King used as his backing band in subsequent UK tours. Mechanically what happened was that Steamhammer played their set, then Kieran White & Martin Pugh went off & FK came on, using just part of Steamhammer (Martin Quittenton, Steve Davy, Mike Rushton) as his backing unit.
