Got to ask the stupid question....why do they need to "Clear the starting line"? Do they not have their safety equipment staged at the end of the track where most of the wrecks end up stopping? Or does the driver just have to sit there and cook while they trundle down the track to the accident?
@NolanRempelАй бұрын
So yes, a lot of the heavy equipment such as trucks with hoses, ambulances, and so on are at the end of the track. But often times there are smaller vehicles such as quads, golf carts, pit pikes, or otherwise that can get out there far quicker from the STARTING line so they can assess if they have to. Useful especially if a crash is in the first half of the track. And these small vehicles can still cause serious injury or death for not just someone that steps into the way because they aren't paying attention, but also to the person riding it. For some smaller tracks, perhaps they DO have their gear behind the starting line. So it's more to make sure that there is a clear, open lane so personnel can still make haste to an incident, since at that point it pretty much becomes all hands on deck. I'm of the opinion that there should NEVER be that many people on a starting line ANYWAY. The only people that need to be there, are the actual starting line track crew, the drivers, cars, and a few crew members. There should never be these massive crowds on the line like is so common in outlaw style racing. My track runs its weekly racing program on the policy of "If your car is not ON the line, you have 0 reason to be there."

No such thing as a Stupid Question when it's something like this one it's just a way to expand your knowledge on things you didn't know or understand before. Better then being to scared to ask thinking that way and not learning what you did by taking the time to ask like you did. N to clear up the first sentence yes there are stupid questions lol this just isn't one by any means. 😊

Does anyone know why the NHRA doesn't adopt the "Safer barriers" that NASCAR went to many years ago?
@NolanRempel16 күн бұрын
SAFER barriers that NASCAR tracks utilize are more to help with head-on impacts, which don't happen too often in drag racing. Because they're designed to give and bounce a car back out too, they also risk causing more damage by ricocheting the car back across the track, potentially taking out the other and making the situation even worse. It's also a cost problem. SAFER barriers are real expensive, and some estimates put it at over $1,000,000 for a track to install them along the whole track. While some of the big tracks could maybe afford it like ZMAX that are already owned by NASCAR, that is a huge purchase that most smaller tracks likely can't justify. (For reference, my track spent about 300k grinding down the track surface to rework it so it could be more driveable, therefor safe)

They don’t use safer barriers like nascar uses which is really scary to see a car crash on the wall like that
@NolanRempelАй бұрын
It’s both a safety thing, and a cost thing. Many tracks can’t afford it since it could be upwards of 1 mil to install them down an entire track. Also, they wouldn’t really help all that much. Safer Barrie’s are designed for 90 degree impacts, which seldom happen in drag racing.
