great vid and i recently talked to a high ranking official at steamtown and he said that the B&M isn't gonna be done anytime soon. He said 1 to 2 more years if were lucky.

I was out there and on the CN #3254 and from what I could tell the attendance looked pretty good. I sat in the second car from the front (when we were coming into Moscow) but it was pretty cool. For the entire ride I was wondering what the ALCOs were there for, but after seeing the video I realized why they were. I did see the 2317 run though; but the Nickel Plate 514 diesel did the runs around the grounds. I guess 2317 is up for repairs soon, and that's why they want to get BM 3713 up & running

The NKP 759 was stored in D&H railroad building when Nelson Blount owned Steamtown in Vermont. There was a fire in the building, and NKP 759 was steammed up fast, with the fluids still in it (since it was stored indoors), and since the building burnt down, NKP 759 was stored outdoors and the fluids froze solid inside of it. I think the Feds sued them for negligence and won some money (I'm not sure how much) and they are putting that towards the repairs and restoration of the locomotion.

I could be wrong; but aren't they having a money issue with Boston and Maine 3713? I thought I saw somewhere on youtube in one the video comments that they are going to put it together in pieces but they need some more money to finish the project. If that's the case maybe 2010 is a more realistic date for completion and operation.

As much as I like the 2317, 3254 performed flawlessly in this video. Just be glad there still big steam running the east. From the looks of your videos, the closest steam engine to you is the 3254.

I think I've said that NKP 759 would be a great idea too, but I heard from a volunteer at Steamtown that 759 is as dead as they come. The tubes are frozen solid, and even though it's stored indoors it'd cost around $4 to $10 million to restore. I don't know if Steamtown has that kind of money to restore this engine.

I think it would make someone want to purchase C&O 614 and get it running again, because then they could run it into Steamtown and pull excersions from there. Just image the possiblilites that could come from this cutoff. I just don't know why we ever let Conrail take the tracks up to begin with.

3254 has a smoke shield/deflector around the whistle, so when gunk or anything collects and the whistle blows, it makes that sound.

Well I know they want to restore engines, but they also have to look at the size of the staff they have. I heard some rumblings that they only have three full time mechanics on duty. That's going to be hard to keep four or more steam locomotives up and running. I don't want them to take on too much where one of these locomotives would end up being taken out of service due to a lack of time, or people to service them properly.

NKP 759 is going to be restored next of what I am hearing now. Steamtown won a lawsuit against the D&H railroad for negligence (from it's tubes being frozen back in the '70s) so they have additional money for that engine to be restored along with a desire to find another organization (like they found for 3713) to help facilitate some people to donate money to. Steamtown has it posted that NKP 759 is in much better shape than Reading 2124.

Shame we'll never see 3254 going down those tracks again due to her status with a bent frame and other problems that proves she'll never run again, and since steamtown crews hated her. But at least 2317 will get to return to service once 3713 is done. Don't know when but someday we'll see 2317 pulling trains again with 3713 and Baldwin 26

I'm afraid 2317 won't get to return to service after 3713. 2317's status is that it's trailing truck and dry pipe are in bad condition. On top of all that the engine needs to have it's federally mandated 1,472 day overhaul done. And the money they would need to do the overhaul combined with the money they would need to fix the trailing truck and the dry pipe would be too much. Sadly it's unlikely 3254 or 2317 will run again anytime soon. even though i would like them both to run again. The only steam locomotives that I can see running again IF or when 3713 is FINALLY done is 3254's classmate 3377 and MAYBE 790. But there are zero plans for any steam locomotives after 3713. Only speculations

I know they got the first part of the line in NJ approved all ready, they are going to put the station in Andover, and run the line to there. From there, I have no idea what the state is going to do. They claim there's not a lot of money for this project, yet ridership on NJ Transit is up like 30%. I just don't get our state. And we have to make stupid laws that don't help anything. On the other hand I can't wait until they get 3713 up and running; it's about time they restored something.
