Steamtown: Lackawanna Railfest '07

For the first time ever, Lackawanna Railfest is hosting its first event at the Steamtown National Historic Site. During this event, we'll get to see a rare westbound steam-powered train; the first one since 1996! Power for the outbound trip, is powered by 2 classic ALCo C424 diesels, #2461 and #2452 down to the Delaware Water Gap. But the highlight of this excursion, is when ex-Canadian National 2-8-2 'Mikado' #3254, will fight with all its might as it tackles the steep grade, heading west on what was once, the route of the Phoebe Snow. I love 3245 I had such memories with it I saw this in person in 2016 in Scranton PA I didn't get to see them again but hopefully I wish they return to operation to be new excursion stars 🥺(p′︵‵。)

I think the Canadian National step-top 5 chime is one of the most ghostly, haunting whistles to ever exist, if not #1 on the list. I love it, it sends chills up your spine and permanently embeds itself in your memory. It's the kind of whistle you'd hear on a cold, gloomy day with a light rain or in the middle of the night, evoking memories of a bygone era.

@@steamandsmoke97I beg to differ. I think a nicely tuned Reading 6 Chime is even more ghostly. Not only that but a 3-Bell Smith Hyson Whistle used on old ocean liners is up there.

@LABasinRails Was never a big fan of 3 note whistles in general, whether 3 chime or 3 bell. Only very few appeal to me. And we're talking about locomotive whistles, not Triden Whistles on Steam Ships because they're a category all their own. Yes they are indeed haunting, but fit an entirely different genre.

Shame 3254 will never steam again but I'm fine with 3713 replacing her since I like pacifics more than mikados despite my second favorite steam locomotive is a mikado (its not 3254 btw this one was from america and a year younger than 3254) but that doesn't matter I like pacifics more and that 2317 will get her chance to run again after 3713 is done and I think I recall hearing from somewhere that steamtown might want to have it running maybe in 2021 or 2022 since 26 has 9 years left of flue time before another rebuild but I don't see 3713 done by then

Bruh. 3713 will NEVER be complete. They have been restoring it for 23 years and it's not ANY closer to being complete. I bet 5-6 years will come and 3713 will still be NO closer to being complete.

and if people were trained properly or at least paid attention, it wouldn't have been that bad. the engineer didn't give her enough time to get grip, so when he pulled on the throttle again each time, the wheels were still spinning.
