Let’s get into it. Both say this lines in moments they lack the self-esteem due to past abuse & say it in desire for something they don’t fully feel they deserve because they were raised to believe they could never have this. For Ed, it’s material luxury & emotional safety/comfort. For Stede, it’s acceptance for being himself & community; the physical companionship of someone just accepting him & the emotional stability/ healing to forgive himself for not being what others want/expect, respecting himself enough to fight for himself unapologetically.
