I bet that somewhere a chain has borne full industrial fault current like that for real. I tried running low voltage DC power down chains when I was younger and they really do make a shit connection due to all the metal to metal connections and surface oxidation. A TIG welder might have had the advantage of the high open circuit voltage breaking the oxides down.

You have it wrong. There's nothing really over the top dangerous here. What is really interesting, is this man has managed to fry a fucking chain. A chain. Not a piece of wire or cheap chinese multimeter. A mechanical device for restraint has been popped. That is definitely interesting.
@leexgx8 жыл бұрын
it's mostly lower voltage so looks more dangerous then it is (at best he set his shoe, pants or carpet on fire)
@amaulana0908 жыл бұрын
+lee x Then again, the metal could have burnt straight through his skin.
@shelvacu8 жыл бұрын
I'm referring to all of his videos, including this one. Setting his carpet on fire is *very bad* and could lead to death, although most likely just severe burns and no more house. But in past videos he has dealt with much much higher voltages to make things that he expects to heat up, all on his CARPTED FLOOR. His equipment can do plenty enough amps to kill him easily, one trip or misstep and he is literally dead. Most of the time there are breakers to prevent Bad Things from happening, but in this case he explicitly wants the Bad Things to happen (just to the device, and not to him). I like to think that it's all trickery to make us think its really unsafe to make his videos more interesting but really he's in the middle of a barren field with a remote cutoff switch in his pocket as well as a helper standing ready at a physical cutoff switch, and with fire extinguishers available and with the main actor actually edited in via green screen effects and well, I'd like to think so. Probably not, though.

@Frankfurtdabezzzt8 жыл бұрын
low resistance I guess
@VictorIndiaDeltaAlfa8 жыл бұрын
Probably because of difference in conductivity. There are many different materials on this chain; from zinc coating and steel to everything they turn into at 800°C or more.
@andrewlorona73608 жыл бұрын
The parts that don't glow are chain links that welded together and have a low resistance, so they dissipate a lot less power (ohmic heating). Also the hot parts are a little thinner because they oxidize faster.

A question for someone who might know, the chain loses it's looseness and becomes very rigid looking when power is applied. Is this because at a microscopic or subatomic level the molecules are basically doing the same thing a person does when tased by a taser and locking up?
