Two Gun Terry & Friends - compare Ruger Mark III 22/45 Lite upgraded with Volquartsen trigger, internals, Eagle Edge extractor and an LLV barrel, the amazing Volquartsen Scorpion and the newest member to the Volquartsen family the incredible Volquartsen Black Mamba! It may just be the perfect rimfire pistol! Then for chagrins I included my 10/22 hybrid Open class rimfire rifle aka the awesome Volquartsenized Franken-Rifle with a tip of the hat to Kidd receiver and bolt as well as thanks to PMACA for their chassis (looks like the Modshot chassis) and the compensator is from our friends at TandemKross. Together it makes one outstanding race rifle!

I have multiple 10/22 rifles and MKIV pistols. They're two of my all time favorite guns and I enjoy building them much more than building ARs or 1911s. In the 10/22 I have I have 5 Volquartsens, 2 KIDD, Two Magnum Research, and one FJ Feddersen (Two 22WMR, One 17HMR, and one 17 Mach2 and six 22LR). In the MKIVs I have 2 complete Volquartsen, a Black Mamba and a Scorpion, 2 complete Tandemized Tandemkross, and then one Frankenstein Ruger MKIV Tactical/TK/Volquartsen build. The Volquartsen 10/22s are all Volquartsen, the receivers, triggers, and barrels. The 2 KIDDs are all KIDD which they are pretty close to the Vols in every way. The FJ Feddersen is their receiver and barrel and it has the Volquartsen TG2000 trigger and bolt. IMO the FJF is by far the best of them all. My favorite MKIV is one of the full blown TKs. I also have enough stock 10/22 receivers and parts to build at least 4 complete guns

You're right. This was an impromptu video I did while practicing one day. I looked at my guns and thought they were so pretty that I pulled out my iPhone and made a quick video. Truth be told despite being in the computer industry Ive been learning how to create KZbin videos as I go. Ive learned a lot of the past few months and have a series of Steel Challenge videos made for you the viewer I think you will really like. I also believe the production value will be greatly improved. Right now Im focused on shooting at the World Speed Shoot in Alabama but after that I'll start rolling out the new videos. In the meantime I have 60+ videos on KZbin as of today. Check them out. You can observe quite a bit from watching how Two Gun Terry and Friends shoot the stages. There are also a few more detailed how to's and review videos in the bunch that I hope are fun and informative. Im just getting started. My goal is to make TwoGunTerry a household name within the shooting community...sort of! hahaha Thanks for another excellent comment.

Some nice Volquartsen conversions, plus the actual Scorpion, TGT. I have a Scorpion and a Volquartsen Masters based on the Mark III frame that shoot equally well. My current favorite .22 pistol is a Pardini SP Bullseye that shoots groups hardly larger than the barrel bore diameter at 25 yards.

I WANT a Pardini SP!!!! Thanks for likely costing me $2000!!!! Just what I need. Another expensive 22 but how sweet it is. Im a speed and precision shooting junkie and the Pardini brand definitely looks interesting. Do you know if they can be shot rapid fire or is it more for precision bullseye? Regardless I want one! Thanks for sharing.
@Sagittariustoo
@Sagittariustoo 5 жыл бұрын
TGT, My Pardini is the 6" Bullseye model with compensator. It is for slow-fire bullseye matches. There is the Olympic model with 5" barrel for 25 meter rapid fire events but NOT the type of rapid fire you shoot at steel targets. The pistol only holds 5 rounds which was a turn off for me at first. But it appealed to me so much, I went ahead and purchased one anyway. The cons of the pistol are...the five shot capacity and the bolt doesn't stay open after the last shot. Plus, you need to count your shots as it's not recommended to dry fire it. If you do, it wont damage the chamber but you could break the firing pin if done too much. The pistol comes with the best dry fire plug ever designed for plenty of practice shots. The Pardini is very unique in that the bolt contains the chamber, the ejector is built into the magazine and the feed ramp is built into the magazine. The pistol comes with 2 magazines that are expensive at $80.00 if you want extras. But the magazines are superbly made and look like they're worth the money. The pistol is designed for standard velocity but I only shoot standard velocity in my Volquartsens also. My Pardini SP is incredible accurate; the most accurate pistol I've ever owned or seen in my life ! My Volquartsen pistols will not shoot with it, not a chance ! I sent my pistol barrel shroud back to Pardini USA to have the accessory Sledge mount attached to it in order to mount my favorite Razor Red Dot sight to it. But you can attach tip off rings directly to the Pardini receiver if you wish. I also ordered a Horton custom grip for mine as I have huge hands that were a bit too large for the grip that came with the pistol. The basic price for my pistol was $2,650.00 but is now well north of $3,000.00 with the additions. Worth every penny to me as I think it's beautiful and love the way it shoots. Purchased my Pardini SP from Pardini USA which is in Tampa Florida. www.pardiniguns.com

Hi keg iuty, welcome to TwoGunTerry & Friends! Your KZbin name reminds me of a friend of mine. Maybe we travel in the same circles. That is a great question. The short answer is if your pistol shoots reliably 100% of the time and it shoots accurately. I don't see a reason to change. When I first started competing I purchased a Ruger Marl III 22/45 Lite. Out of the box I had all sorts of trouble when trying to shoot at speed. Stove piping and feeding problems. So bad in fact that at my first match with that gun after a very frustrating pile of 30 second penalties I ended up withdrawing the gun and came in dead last. The first thing I changed was to the LLV barrel. That resolved the feeding issues and tightened up my group from 2" to 1". It also added just enough weight to the front of the barrel to reduce muzzle flip. Frankly, the Volquartsen name boosted my confidence. Especially later in my shooting because I knew their reputation as the best and that their parts worked. So if I had a problem it was me not the gun. I could make adjustments to my grip, trigger pull, etc. Next I added the Volquartsen Bolt Tune Up Kit. The kit included their Exact Edge Extractor and SureStrike firing pin. I kept the Ruger bolt but polished the ba-gee-bees out of it to make it move smoothly and without resistance. Maybe I should have upgraded to the Volquartsen bolt but I didn't want to spend the money. I wish I had because the Ruger firing pin spring broke in a match. A $2 part cost me the match. Live and learn. I replaced the springs with the Tandem Kross spring and so far so good. To be fair to Ruger I put thousands of rounds through that gun the first year when the spring broke. I also learned how to tune the Ruger magazines. That stopped the stove piping. Now I had a reliable gun I could shoot in a match. The absolute best change I made was upgrading to the Volquartsen trigger. Oh my goodness, what a difference. Crisp 2 lb. trigger, an adjustable take up set screw, I set with just a touch of take up so that I could have my finger there without the gun going off until I want it to. It also has an adjustable over travel set screw but I removed mine completely. I liked it so much I have it in all 3 of my competition rimfire pistols and in my 10/22 rifle. Everyone who shoots it, experienced shooter or novice loves it! I'll go out on a limb and say if you like a light trigger you'll love it too!!! I could not shoot as fast as I do without it. One day while practicing, the Ruger mainspring broke. To Ruger's credit the gun kept running just fine. I didn't even know it had snapped in two pieces until I cleaned the gun that night. If you check out my other videos I posted a video about it. I replaced it with the Volquartsen mainspring that is made of one solid piece instead of 3 pieces riveted together and haven't had any problems 30,000 rounds later. Bottom line is that Ruger designed an amazing rimfire pistol. Volquartsen perfected it. En-Joy! Terry

TwoGunTerry, thanks for sharing this video. That black mamba looks sweet. As a competitive shooter, what made you decide to go 4.5 vs 6?
@TwoGunTerry
@TwoGunTerry 5 жыл бұрын
Hi PatPending310. Welcome to TwoGunTerry and Friends. I love new viewers and ideally new friends who love the shooting sports! When I purchased my first Volquartsen LLV barrel for my Ruger 22/45 Lite I had the same decision to make that you are asking about. I sold myself on the 6" barrel figuring longer is more accurate. That is true but a fellow shooter explained that in Steel Challenge the farthest target is 35 yards with an average target distance of under 20 yards. The touch more accuracy the longer barrel would provide at that distance if any was not as important as the benefits of having a lighter and shorter gun. He went on to explain that I could move the pistol right and left faster, stop it on a dime, and change direction more quickly with the shorter barrel. These advantages far outweighed what the longer barrel offered in accuracy. Now add a 2" or 3" compensator to the end of an already long 6" barrel and Mama Mia! In my opinion it slows the gun movement down too much. The longer barrel is a better choice if you are planning to shoot 100 yard bullseye competitions and maybe for hunting at distance but in my humble opinion the 4.5" is a great choice for Steel Challenge and even Action Steel matches. Another thought is to buy the 4.5" and also purchase just a 6" barrel that fits your frame to have the best of both worlds!!! I hope this helps. Thanks for watching my videos and for the great question! Enjoy, TwoGunTerry

So I went with the 6 inch barrel build on my Black Mamba for the exact reason you have questioned here. Better accuracy matters more to me than potential sound suppression with the shorter barreled guns. Why would I want a can on the end of my 22LR for competition shooting? Not a need for that in my world. Its a tack driver for sure.
@TomasLomba
@TomasLomba 4 жыл бұрын
wiremantw Freedom & Liberty Forever a can is almost pointless but a compensator isn’t. I know that a compensator doesn’t do much in a .22lr but if you are going to use the gun for competitive shooting every little advantage counts. A compensator will add 1 or 2 more inches to gun length. It also adds weight. Thats why it is recommended to go for the shorter barrel if you are going to enter in ≈ 30 yard target competitions.

@TwoGunTerry
@TwoGunTerry 4 жыл бұрын
For Steel Challenge with a red dot sight I like the 4.5" barrel. With the compensator it's long enough. I say this because you have to be able to move the pistol fast. Up, down, right and left. Easier with the shorter barrel. If you want to shoot iron sights the longer barrel is just a hair more accurate due to the longer distance from front to rear sights. Great for bullseye shooting at 50-100 yards. For Steel Challenge it's not really necessary. I love my Black Mamba! Very well balanced, feels great in my hand, ultra reliable, returns to zero perfectly and is extremely accurate with either length barrel. It is literally competition ready right out of the box. I haven't changed, tweaked or tuned anything on my Black Mamba. It just runs. I suggest calling Volquartsen directly to get their thoughts on which is better for you. Their number is (712) 792-4238. @TwoGunTerry
@TwoGunTerry 4 жыл бұрын
Welcome GGlitter72! The Black Mamba is an exceptional rimfire pistol. Accurate and fast shooting. You won't be disappointed. As for the C-More I researched many red dots before selecting to go with C-More on all my competition guns. I tried Burris Fast Fire, no good. Kept turning off in the middle of a match. Then I tried the Leupold Delta Point Pro II. The 12MOA triangle sight was too much of a distraction and I like and use 12MOA dots for Steel Challenge. Go figure. Then I tried the Trijicon RMR on my Smith and Wesson M&P 9L Performance Center pistol. I like it very much and it works great but the biggest dot is 6 MOA and they cost $600!!! Finally I looked at what the other competitors were using. I found that most of Steel Challenge and USPSA shooters are using C-More. They are durable, hold zero for a long time, have exchangeable dot modules so I can change the dot size for $50 instead of changing the whole sight. The best bart is that they are relatively inexpensive at around $250 for the base model. I've been shooting them for 3 years and 100's of thousands of rounds down range. I see no reason to change. Besides, I like the way they look on my firearms. I hope this helps. Great to have a new friend in Germany! Be well, Terry

BX-25s (and BX-25x2s) have a different profile than the 10 rounders. You can make them as reliable but you need: 1. Dual springs 2. Gorilla tape to copy the profile of the 10 rounder The YT vids show them putting tape on the back, but this is wrong and stupid. 1 layer of gorilla tape on just the front, and then another layer going over the sides and front. That little circle? Go over it. Grats, now you can load 22 capacity and they'll feed correctly now. I find that 23 is hit or miss.
