While I also enjoy melty videos, when scrapping for max profit, the extra costs incurred coupled with lower price from yards (due to composition uncertainty from their pov) is a double punch to the bottom line. Pretty sure I'm mostly just quoting from Thub's copper basics video. All that said, I'd totally watch. :)

You should try talking to Locksmith shops see if can save up old locks for you. You will find lots of brass and steel in it. When I was a Locksmith I used to fill up a 5gl bucket in a week or 2 for my neighbor's kids to scrap. I never had the time or will to mess around with the scraping and before I saved it up for them all the locks ended up in the trash

Those construction dumpsters are the best for Romex! If that power strip in the back of the truck is scrap, try taking it apart. It should be full of brass.

It's like watching myself , takes me back to the good old scraping days. The only job I could work 6.00 am till 11.00 pm with total willingness. I think selling fast is the way to go , water the price cuss storage ends up messy and a lack of room fast and keeps your mind clear for new opportunities. Keep having fun at doing a great thing for your community. It's in the best in trestle for bin holders to have steal products removed as they don't have them dumped for free.

This guy gets it!! I agree, people renting those bins are better off if someone gets the steel out of them cuz it’ll save them money. And I like the way you said it, keeping your mind clear for new opportunities. I’ve got no mental space to take on new things when all my potential space is loaded with projects already. Prices may be going up because of demand by Foundries that believe there will be a shortage of materials in the future. The Foundries want to be sure they have the raw materials they need to keep operating. The scrap yard I go to has been trying to sale to their buyers so much that the yard's piles of cars and stainless that those piles are going to totally disappear. Which means their buyers are buying much more than they need to operate in the short run. The same reason oil prices go up: the refineries believe there will be a shortage of oil so they bid the price up to be sure they get what they WILL need.

When I worked in interior demolition we would always welcome scrappers. They always help with metal disposal and less work for us. Try finding a cool/nice demolition crew. Just a suggestion. Stay safe... love your video bro ✌️.

Oh I’ve been the same way the whole time I’ve been scrapping. It used to be $350/T and I couldn’t be bothered, then I watched it drop the way it has been the last few years and that just reassured me that it was best to avoid altogether. Buuuuut it did pay for half a tank of gas this time, so I think I’ll keep an eye out for decent pieces and take advantage where I can.

Metal scrap prices follow production. Production is about to take a DIVE. Gas prices going crazy high. COVID19 has damaged the economy in ways that are delayed, but they are coming for sure with tax hikes in the US and lower average earnings which will destroy demand. I'd sell my scrap soon.

I’d have to go thru the video to see specifically what the hardware looked like but most hinges are actually steel or zinc alloy and doorknobs are almost always just a thin brass shell over zinc alloy. If it was a nice thick brass plate or handle I must’ve been in a rushing mode!

I have a copper addiction. We could get fired for taking scrap from work but man when I see guys just throwing 2,3,4,5 foot pieces of cable in the trash every day it breaks my heart. I can’t get it all, but rescue as much as I can. “Why is this empty tool bag so heavy?” BAM!
