About 15 or 20 years ago, I restored a piano, and - depending on Canadian ivory law - you can resell the keys and/or ivory surfaces to people who restore pianos. The ebony keys will sell well, too. Nice finds today, Thub!

I’ll have to look into it, there could be some real value there!

@@thubprint I found this - different from here because here, no ivory of any provenance can be sold ever. "Ivory objects brought into Canada prior to 1989 can still be sold within Canada, but cannot be transported out of the country. The market within Canada for ivory objects is unpredictable and depends on specific local factors of collectors' interests and comfort levels of owning objects made from an endangered species."

I'd advise against scrapping a piano. I grabbed one out of curiosity and thinking it was worth it. The "harp" (What the strings attach to) is a solid 250lb piece of cast iron. Normally That's all gravy but the tuning pegs for each string (100+) all go through the harp and the solid piano frame and do NOT want to be taken out. I had to burn the whole piano just to harvest the cast. Unless you have a giant fire pit and three strong friends (the whole piano is 500lbs) it's not worth it. Very little amount of brass bits you might be able to grab but that's all.
@thubprint3 жыл бұрын
I’ve been looking into it and that’s what it sounds like, 200+ tuning pegs that are all super firm etc. I think it would be a good piece of content but not a good payoff for one’s time.

@@thubprint the first one I did I had to snip every Wire by hand before I found out that the pegs don't want to come out. I picked up another piano and threw the entire thing straight in the fire, the heat relaxed the strings and burnt the wood so the strings just fell off
