Steel Mill Railroad CWRO The Crow Cleveland Works Railway bottle train

One of our favorite spots to catch trains is Independence Rd in Cleveland Ohio. Here the Cleveland Works Railway ( CWRO reporting mark but affectionately called The Crow) has their yard office and nucleus of their operations inside the Cliffs steel mill. We're guaranteed train action 365 days a year day and night. Even on Christmas! Filming here is pretty well limited to shooting from the car but still lots of fun! Sorry the scene with LTEX 67 is out of focus but I kept it because that unit sounds pretty nice when worked hard.

I actually met the manager of CROW this weekend, thru a mutual friend. Never realized they are Class 1. He also mentioned how much of a nightmare it is to interchange with NS/CSX/WLE/N&SS and the FRA regs including 5 railroads in one spot

does anyone know why steel companies don’t operate the railroad themselves, what’s the advantage of having another company move your stuff around during the manufacturing process? thanks

It's probably because they don't have to manage it themselves, and it's likely more convenient because the railroad company will offer service for them. (This probably wasn't a very good explanation, but hopefully it's helpful to some degree)
