I like this video as an example of what makes Arma game play so compelling. Even when 'nothing' is apparently happening, a hundred subtle little things are going on...sectors being scanned, friendly movements being noted, map markers being consulted, radio coms being monitored, small adjustments to positioning being made...so that when 'something' finally happens, you're in a position to deal with it decisively and begin preparing for the next engagement. Not every mission is going to be as chaotic and cinematic as a Fire From the Skies, but even seemingly 'boring' Arma, when everything is going right and the enemy is being held in check, is full of decision points that matter and carry a certain amount of tension.

1080p but the higher res upload eliminate a lot of the quality loss you get from youtube.

TREY1123 Not always, unfortunately, but in some circumstances is definitely does. Dslyecxi still has a few recent high-res videos with quite a lot of compression, it's something to do with the color scheme of the video itself (lots of green and yellow seems to encourage blurring...)

is your driver shutting off the engine? I thought it took a while for an Abrams turbine to spin up? is that not modeled in ARMA or is the spin-up only from a cold-start.

Not modeled, armor is also rudimentary at best.

The ballistic and material end of things got a really decent upgrade in A3, but they've barely tweaked the way that damage is handled so it doesn't have the sort of effect that it should. A bit more detail on the damage and systems side of things would make a big difference, as would spalling and other fragmentation modelling.

Something I've been wondering about those cooperatives plays for a while now: are you guys using Zeus? And if so, how did you manage in Arma 2? I cannot imagine all those soldiers were scripted up front

pretty sure they had ZX using custom built system to spawn and order units around as a GM anyway. Same deal with A3, might be using zeus but theres almost always a person who's a mastermind behind the AI

They are definitely using scripts and not zeus and I reckon they are either using individual player's PCs in combination with servers' headless clients or just headless client to spawn ton of AI around to keep the server FPS as high as possible. It is really all about keeping obj as low as possible, so things will get spawned only if they matter aka a player is near it, if they become irrelevant again then despawn and so on. And that is just getting started, you can do so much more to optimise all of it. Arma's server optimisation is quite a hot topic, just google it, so many different people talking about. Also, it is worth taking a good look at github, ton of good resources all over the place for good arma scripts. You likely have to write a few custom ones yourself to fit your style and what you are trying to achieve with a particular mission but it is all doable.
