The siding has begun on the timber frame barn. The steel skirting around the building up to 4' will eventually rust and look amazing!

I saw a volkswagen beetle at a car show once. The paint was rusted through in spots, on the fender, hood, and trunk areas. The owner had done a gentle wet sand to it and clear coated the car a couple of times. It locked in the rust. The patterns where color met rust was forever preserved and looked so cool.....I cant wait for your building to be the same. -Will

The copper is actually mixed in with the steel at less than a half a percent. It helps the oxide layer (rust) form a very tight adherent layer that impedes further oxygen from reaching the underlying steel. It is typically known as "weathering steel" the most common brand name is Cor-10. The Hale-Boggs Mississippi river bridge inf Hahnville Louisiana is constructed of it. Their biggest issues with it are the pigeons that roost in it and crap all over the inside. The feces has a lot of ammonia and it corrodes the dickens out of it. You need to be mindful of that with your siding. Be careful with things like chlorine or ammonia based cleaners(things like clorox) and animal urine. They can do a number on those steels.

Interesting siding choice. I like it. I'm going to check if it something that it handled locally. I use story sticks whenever possible, We are stuck in a cold pattern and still have snow on the ground, its going to go away soon, I just have a feeling that it will.

even if your planning to put a wood stove in there id think about adding some rock wool to the inside of the tin and then whatever finishing wall to go around the interior of the barn. I see so many barns turn into workshops that are pretty miserable to work in the winter. cold metal repairs ect...

I admire the works of others when done the right way like you do. sturdy and precise. looks aren't everything but wood beams and speak volumes to me. Pride is humbling. bless you and your family. they're lucky to have a strong person in their life who can show that with a little vision, lots of will and some patience many things can be done with one's life.

You need to check out “R&R buildings” on KZbin this guy builds amazing buildings and has really cool Metal trim installation techniques. Your barn will look awesome with the tin on the bottom and wood on the top. thanks for all the great KZbin content , oh yeah one more thing have you considered building lean two’s on either side of your barn ?
