@@TheContainerGuyTV Where can I get the gasket sealing for the window frames?
@F-Bomb3132 жыл бұрын
I don't know about plastic for the framing brackets, I've been steel stud framing for over 30 years, I'd recommend adhering a rubber pad to the part that touches the shipping container (like the kind used in sound deadening when metal framing). That way, the only thermal bridging would be the screw points, no re-tooling to make new brackets, and galvanized metal brackets are just better. Also, since you are using 1- 5/8" studs, you will notice flex in the middle of the walls due to the lack of strength. Once suggestion would be to use flat bar, span it horizontally on the back of the studs & fasten it to each stud with a self-tapping pan head screw. For further strength, you could then use high-strength rubber adhesive, and squirt a dob between the gap of the flat bar & high part of the container skin. Once dry, it will stabilize the walls without any thermal bridging.

Your continuous innovations to shipping container modification technology are a huge contribution to this affordable construction alternative. We're contemplating a couple of shipping container builds to house a rural homestead workshop and a science/computer lab. High humidity and 40 degree daily temperature swings in the Appalachian Mountains will make condensation & mold prevention a major concern. @TheContainerGuyTV2 жыл бұрын
Yeah electrical tape would even work just looks dirty. We might CNC a gasket and adhere it to the SSB. When you spray foam the container when it's level, it locks everything together in the correct position and makes the structure way more rigid. Then make sure it's handled correctly going forward (you can still be liberal with it - don't get me wrong..) Forklifts with long forks, toplifts, and our delivery trucks don't cause an issue.

I want to carry your full line of products in Tennessee. You should consider a formal building course, which in some ways this is, but certified builders and dealers would expand your reach. Employee a lot of people in a completely new building niche and grab a bigger chunk of the up-cycling market. I for one have decided this is what I want to do full time, it's really exciting prospect. Living completely off grid in a small house in rural setting has taught me how little you really need to be happy and sufficient. One element that would be a game changer for me as a builder would be a rain catchment system that adheres to the rim of the top of the container. I use IBC totes on my farm to irrigate, and if they are new from the mold factory they are considered potable, according to the factory I buy from. I would like to funnel the surface water into an either exterior or interior tank, such as an IBC tote. 3" of rain on a 160 sq ft surface fills up my tank with enough to fill the hot water heater, run the dump leg cleanout cycle, and fill my berkey water filter. My idea is a galvanized 14 - 18 gauge rain gutter adhered with self tapping screws into that tube at the top lip just beneath the surface of the roof with a sealant adhesive sticker on the back, or could use silicone calk, the top edge could be beveled to help funnel rain, the gutter could come in 10' sticks, some sort of end caps, maybe with a gasket or crimp on could be used to enclose the cutter. A hole saw 3/4 to 1" could provide an easy way to insert a PVC bulkhead fitting, allowing for ease of funneling the water internally. One issue I've run into in living off grid in cold climate is water freezing. If you store rain water, a ground tank solves that problem, but it's costly to install and not always an option. A tiny house I built for a customer out of traditional materials has a 42 gallon tank in one side of the loft. I just installed a float switch, solar pump controller into their shallow well and the tank fills when the switch is closed (empty tank.) 1/4" -1/2" drop over the 20' should be enough for a healthy flow. And Screen kit could be added. If it's robust could be adhered prior to transport, need only stick out 2" on the long sides. Would love something like this in helping me supplement off grid water concerns.
@TheContainerGuyTV2 жыл бұрын
I could make custom sloped eaves to collect the roof water. Could punch a gutter guard profile into the top of it so the water falls through and the leaves/debris do not. We can laser cut/fold copper which would use the sun to melt the ice in temperate climate zones.

We're doing it right now in our Film Crew's office. Trying a method of running it in the steel studs along the bottom edge which will be covered by a PVC baseboard. Prior to interior lining, we put 4x4 gang boxes in the wall with a short section of EMT pipe running down to that area that we can fish through. Will be easier and cleaner than piping everything in conduit on the wall afterwards. And running the wires before spray foam is a bad idea. Data (Cat6) is something that should always be running through coreline or conduit because everything will eventually be swapped to fibre optic.

If you google INSOFAST container insulation you'll see what I'm talking about. I'm curious as to what I would use if I'm just making a simple 2 or 3 connected container home as I think that the INSOFAST would save me the headache from having to do spray foam insulation and all the added cutting or screwing to steel framing or traditional wood framing, or would I use a combination of the two as you have the kits for joining containers together and making the doors and windows not only usable be more insulated? @TheContainerGuyTV6 ай бұрын
Make sure it's level when you foam. Frame with the thicker (structural) 18 ga steel studs. Once those are locked into the foam, it'll act like rebar in concrete and stiffen up the whole assembly. Try and handle the container from the 4 corner posts or lift through the fork pockets with 8ft forks (or fork extensions). Even if it did "pop" and crack in 1 place, it's still 100 times better than any other insulation method. Spend money on 2lb closed cell foam and sleep well at night knowing you made the right choice.

@@douglascampbell9809 I'm in Saskatchewan - we likely have worse weather. The brackets as is allow for 2.5" of foam on the inside wall corrugations and up to 4" on the outside wall corrugations. They are meant for 2.5" steel studs across the ceiling with an inch above them so between 3.5 and 4" of foam on the ceiling. This is lots for our climates. If you lay 2" of rigid foam on the floor then install a 5/8 T&G subfloor on top, that'll help immensely vs spray foaming the underside (or do both). Having a warm floor is key. I was really excited to install this kit in my 20' container, but my experience with this company's customer service has diminished that excitement. This kit ships with no instructions and while this video is a good overview of the kit, it really doesn't suffice as a step to step guide. I looked for instructions on the website, but there is nothing. I emailed customer service requesting instructions and the next day was provided with an instruction manual. Unfortunately, when I didn't receive a same day response, I begun installing the brackets going off of what I had gleaned from this video as I figured that a instruction manual must not exist, otherwise it would've be provided, right? Wrong, the next day I received an email from customer service with the instructions I had been hoping for. These instructions called for installing 5 brackets on each sidewall in specific places, placement of the studs, and installation of the caster covers. However, there was no mention of where to place the ceiling studs. Also, my kit came with 20 brackets, but these instructions only call for 10. I emailed customer service again looking for clarification and was told that I was given outdated instructions and that they now recommend 10 brackets on each wall. So here I am, going back for a 3rd time to install more brackets. For $300 these issues should be worked out and I honestly expected a how to step by step video to drop right after this one. Unfortunately that didn't happen. If you've read this far and bought the kit, I recommend reaching out to the company for the instructions and keep in mind that 10 brackets are used on each side wall. 22" spacing between studs, ceiling studs attached to the brackets not just the track. Also, the self tapping screws provided are a joke and will melt before they penetrate the tubing. Get yourself a 13/64" drill bit to drill the holes, then use an impact to send the screws in. Overall, love the products but very disappointed in the customer service.

We look forward to getting our prices down through further automation of our manufacturing processes and a reduction of input costs.

ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY! BUILD EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT. SKIP THE JUNK CONTAINER. IT IS EXPENSIVE AND USELESS.
