It seems, over the years, that the Fiesta Bowl has become a home game for Penn State.

I’ve got a funny story. My dad was a prof at PSU and I grew up watching PSU football, and got used to them winning bowl games - I sort of invariably just forgot who the various victims were over the years. Many years after this game I met my wife’s uncle in LA, who was a big USC fan. When I told him I went to Penn State he gave me this funny look and told me he’d have to forgive me for the treatment PSU gave Marcus Allen in the ‘82 Fiesta Bowl. “Oh, is that who we played?” was my response. Dude hates my guts to this day LOL

No mention of Oklahoma thrashing y'alls asses in the Sugar Bowl when Cappeletti was PSU's Heisman winner, or Oklahoma thrashing y'all in the Orange Bowl for the natty!!!!
@brianfergus8393 жыл бұрын
Nor did I mention that Cappelletti did not play in the game, nor that the Sooners cheated and were forced to forfeit the game and that Penn State refused to accept the victory. No shame here... we lost a few.

@Dale Herman Yeah, we were no match for Oklahoma. That’s why they beat Miami in the national championship game in ‘87 by way more points than we did in ‘86. Oh wait, what’s this? OU didn’t beat Miami? They lost and choked away their perfect season? Gee, that’s too bad. I’m sure glad Penn State didn’t lose their perfect season and the national championship against Miami in the Orange Bowl.

If you think back......Penn State was at Large Team......a finished Undefeated at least 7 times. They Beat Alabama, and USC.. still never got the respect because of their loss to Oklahoma......and they beat Miami at the height of Jimmy Johnson. Nittany Lions Tougher than the Rest...and phuked over by the Pundits

Like I always say, when "Heisman hopeful", Heisman winner, playing against our defense might as well be a target on their back. We crushed Allen; 85 yards in 30-odd carries, and a year later, we'd do the same treatment on Herschel Walker.

Those were the really good days. I don’t know what it’s going to take to get back to this again given that we have about 6 to 8 top level players versus the 15 the mega teams have including that one six win team in our conference. Also that you get two years on the field and they’re gone now. Makes it even harder for teams that only get a few top level players. It used to be you stayed all four years

@@brianfergus839 The first reported incident that might have alerted someone that something was afoot occurred in 1998. That incident was investigated and dismissed by the police. Shortly thereafter, Sandusky retired (in 1999), and the incident involving former QB Mike McQueery occurred in 2002, long after Paterno had any oversight or control over him. As per PSU policy, the 2002 incident that McQueery related to Paterno was reported by Paterno less than a day later to his boss, PSU Athletic Director Tim Curley. Ten days after Peterno's report to his boss, Mike McQueary, met with AD Curley and PSU Vice President (The man in charge of the PSU Police Department) Gary Schultz. Two weeks after the meeting between McQueery, Curley, and Schultz, Curley informed McQueary that Sandusky's keys to the locker room had been taken away and that the incident was reported to The Second Mile charity. Sandusky was also banned from bringing children onto the Penn State campus in a decision reviewed and approved by Graham Spanier, the university president. No further allegations were leveled against Sandusky for another seven years, at which point, the 2002 incident and its handling were re-examined... So... What warnings did Paterno ignore?

The announcers comments were so off on some plays there narrative was so bias and protective to whom (players) they desired to protect a bad play performance is just that do they think what fans see wasn't what they saw until I got older and forgot about more football than they'll ever really know funny no social media like today only silent films with teams maybe if someone taped it at home but really some things they said live was ridiculous I'm in tears now that I watched it many many many years later wow if we had it like today are whole team would've been band from use lol #6 TW 78-82
