Rudolph won both the Johnny Unitas and Sammy Baugh Trophies after his senior year. When they picked him in the 3rd round, Steelers GM Kevin Colbert said they had him rated as a 1st rounder. No one was wrong about his talent. They just didn't give him much of a chance, Tomlin.

Because Canada's system requires a mobile QB and he is the least mobile of the 3. If you protect him he can be an average QB a good backup. He'll come back down to earth soon when he faces a good defense. We should have grabbed Rodgers when we had the chance. Now watch them go after Wilson in the offseason.

Nobody gave Rudolph the 3 years of starts people say players need in order to know what kind of player they might be. Josh Allen reinvented himself between his 2nd and 3rd years during the off-season. Kenny has 25 starts vs Mason's 13. How does anyone truly know if Rudolph can take a team to the Superbowl? Josh Dak and Lamar haven't taken their teams to the Superbowl yet either.

I remember the play in 2019 against Baltimore where Mason got knocked out. He escaped the pocket after it collapsed, ran to his left, kept his eyes down field, and threw a dart on the run with a defender in his face for the first down. I remember thinking "that was vintage Ben, this is the Steeler's next franchise QB". When he came back from that injury, he turned into a check down QB. I always knew he had the talent, but his confidence was destroyed and that seemed to be the end for him. I am thrilled to see him come back from that and no matter how this ends I am happy for him. I hope we can keep him and have a healthy and fair QB competition next season.

Looking back at the other times they tried to start Rudolph, it is easy to see why he didn't do well. When Ben got injured, they tried running the wildcat even though Rudolph is a pocket passer. They rarely let him go down the field with it. Other starts were under Canada so they shouldn't count.
