As a teenager in 1971 I picked up a girl hitchhiking on 495 in Mass. I had ISB on the box and as she passed me the joint, and I'll never forget this moment, she said, "If like ISB then you'd love Steeleye Span". She was right and I'm still enjoying their music some 50 odd years later.

Late to the party, I met a girl in late ‘88 who was into this folky stuff. Not my thing at all. She gradually introduced me to Fairport, All About Eve and Tull, then got brave enough to bring Span into the mix. The ‘Time’ tour was the first time (of several) that I actually saw them live, and it was a great gig. Still with her.

Aaa! Gay Woods is so cool! Her career with Terry and the Woods Band is amazing. I don't get why she disappeared once again.

This is possibly their best album. Maddy and Gay are a perfect foil for each other. The Water is Wide is so beautiful it makes me cry.

My favourite LP is their first, Hark! the Village Wait. It's consistently good, every song is a gem. Time is probably my 2nd favourite, it's fascinating to hear the new interpretation of Twa Corbies, very dark.

I love what Gay Woods brings to the band, but I can’t help thinking that Bob Johnson was a huge loss for Steeleye. His voice is unique, and those ballads are just sensational.

Absolutely man. I've been catchin up again post Bedlam Born stuff and I just don't get on with the other male singers. They should just use Jesse instead, definitely I think, she has a wonderful voice, as if her beautiful violin playing weren't enough.. I miss Bob, wish he'd done more stuff. So underrated.

Everything here is fantastic, but the violin solo on The Elf Knight is supreme.

O.M.G. Who is Gay Woods? I hadn't heard of her until I saw this. She's beautiful, and what a voice. Go from my window my favourite.

She has worked with other bands over the years, and sang lead on some minor hit in Ireland, I think when she was with Auto da Fée, some kind of progressive or experimental rock (?) band. There is some on KZbin, and I did manage to hear the hit and some other recordings. There's also stuff from the Woods band (at least 2 albums) and "Gay and Terry Woods," at least two more albums.

I love this band and the music but they obviously overdubbed the studio tracks which ruins it for me I would have rather heard it live.
