Well, this technique was news to me! I wanted to try tying an Intruder without investing in Waddington shanks, so I simply snipped off a regular hook at the bend and more or less did what you demonstrated. I thought the point of the Waddington shank was to use the loop at the back, not break it off, and that would be more secure. I don't feel so bad now for being cheap! But yes, I have a single shank instead of a double. Hmmm... maybe I can get rid of some ancient double hooks I still have. There's some question here in New Brunswick whether or not doubles are legal. Thanks Peter.

I always wondered if this rig would be good for gar, if you get where I'm coming from, the gar bites the fly and on the strip the stinger slides into its closed jaw, whatcha think? I know you've used tube flies for gar so I want your thoughts, going after them on the fly this spring.

Gar rigging is usually done with tube flies and a long section of line between a small treble and the fly. I don't see why we can't do the same think with a shank.

Hi Peter. Do you ever add some superglue to the shank to fix the maxima in place?
@hooked4lifeca3 жыл бұрын
You certainly could, but I don't as CA glue deteriorates when wet. If the fly is used frequently, there won't be much glue grip left after a while.

@@hooked4lifeca If it helps, some of the Gorilla glues are waterproof.

Wait. Youre meant to break the rear loop off? I never have dont that
@hooked4lifeca3 жыл бұрын
They were not designed that way. Originally we put a small treble on that loop then closed it either with thread or heat shrink tube. It's of no use when we tie on a stinger hook so might as well use it as in the vise.
