What is a Black Cow? It's basically a root beer float using Kahlua. The adult version however uses bourbon. Rudy's (Bar and Grill) still exists here in NYC on 9th ave between 44th and 45th. Then and now it is essentially a dive bar. In the 70's 42nd St was a hub for pro's and johns, and Rudy's was often where pro's, musicians, artists, and actors would mingle. On the bar when he sees her are her remedies (alcohol and drugs), and her book of numbers, so she was more a high priced pro. The pros also strolled from 26th and 11th ave to the Javits Center on 34th and 11th Ave down to 42nd, down to 7th Ave. There were many on the east side on Greene St from Houston to Spring St as well. He is a man who was hopelessly in love with a prostitute that cannot change her ways, and his many attempts to change her have proven fruitless. This is now perhaps his goodbye to her.

Its jazz rock, big in the '70s and '80s. Black Cow is a drink, yall correct. It's like a White Russian, but creamier and a little different. Kahlua, chocolate ice cream, liquor, root beer and other stuff. Also the saxophone solos were common during the '70s, '80s and parts of the '90s. Many good asongs from Steely Dan, check out more of them. '70s and early '80s. Lounge music for sure and relaxing, sophisticated lol. Music for the chill bars or coffee shops. BTW, Lots of Steely Dan songs were sampled by rappers. It's smooth jazzy, funk rock music. This song for instance was sampled back in the late '90s/early '00s, East Coast/NY group, Lord Tariq/Peter Gunz "DeJa Vu (Uptown Baby!)" and other songs/artists. But, Lord Tariq/Peter Gunz was a huge hit and very fun song/video and at night clubs.

A Black Cow can be an adult beverage or a kids beverage. One uses bourbon and the other doesn't. For the adult version: Combine 1/2 cup of evaporated milk with 2 cups of root beer (your choice on the brand but we used A&W Root Beer for this particular one) and 2 ounces of your favorite bourbon. Mix then split between two tall cocktail glasses. Add ice to fill the glass. Drizzle chocolate sauce on the top. Serve.

Steely Dan already had about five years of great songs and albums before they switched it up to the jazz-pop sound of the Aja album (1977), one of the greatest and most original albums you can hear. It had three singles but all of the songs on the album are equally good. It was the creation of the two founders of Steely Dan and an all star collection of studio musicians. The title song, Aja, is really something special. Donald Fagan has been an amazing writer/producer as a solo artist and made more great albums.

Amen. I just spent about 5-6 years listening exclusively to modern heavy prog metal. Lots of aggression and complexity. But I’ve kind of grown stale of it and this 70’s jazz/funk is the exact wavelength I’ve migrated over to. The sounds are so gooey and perfect. So much life to it. After a while heavy music (while it has merits) starts to sound fairly robotic
