Steely Dan are one of those bands that outside of their most well known songs and hits, their albums are just loaded with absolute gems. They never released a bad album. They're the cream of the crop.

I like their “deep” cuts more than their radio hits. Plus obviously there’s like 100 of them so it keeps me busy. Not a bad song.

Man all my life I really thought that Do it Again, Reelin in the Years, Peg and Hey Nineteen would be the best of the best of Steely Dan. But now that I've finally gotten into them, I realize that every single song is great by them and I've been missing out on some of the best songs I've ever heard. Night by Night, The Caves of Altamira, Charlie Freak, Kings, Deacon Blues. Like that's just random songs I'm pulling out of my hat.
@mikewritz3 жыл бұрын
@@mattdrummond3552 Now you know. Plus, you can explore the crazy cryptic lyrics in most of their songs for years. There are just so many bangin deep cuts it’s insane that one group could make all of this music really from just ‘72- ‘80.

Fagen’s keyboard playing always impresses me. He said in an interview that when the band started, he knew his skill set was “good enough to get by. “He sure developed the chops ! Another thing I learned about him was how he used to catch buses into NYC to go to jazz clubs when he was in his early teens and watch some of the greats perform. The kid already was honing those keen observational skills that helped him make the big time later on.
