This album is the album people would use to test their new stereo systems, the production and the engineering/mixing are just so crisp. Brilliant from head to toe.

Denny Dias was working with his own band out of his garage in Hicksville, New York, when he placed an ad in The Village Voice in the summer of 1970 that read: "Looking for keyboardist and bassist. Must have jazz chops! Assholes need not apply". Donald Fagen and Walter Becker responded to the advertisement...The 3 jammed for a few hours..Dias proceeded to fire everyone in his band, and thus the birth of Steely Dan..The rest is history.

As someone who is in their early 30s, I very much appreciate these father showing son the older stuff videos. I’ve recently in the last few months discovered and had Steely Dan’s ‘Can’t Buy a Thrill’ in rotation. Was a cool way to experience ‘Aja’ for the first time this way

I remember hearing cuts from this album back in 1977 on FM radio. With the advent of FM starting to take off with it's clarity and static free transmission did justice to the near perfection of the production process of this album. I couldn't get to the record store fast enough to buy this masterpiece. I've seen and read a lot on the making of this album and I still don't understand how they managed to make what some call a near "perfect" recording.

I’m sure it was just a misspeak but the guitarists on the title track are Walter Becker and Denny Dias who was one of the original guitarists who stuck around after Becker and Fagen fired the rest of the band. Skunk Baxter played on the first three albums and then left and joined the doobie brothers so he wasn’t on Aja

I love the wholesomeness of father and son reacting together to great music, jealous. Steve Gadd, what a genius. Title track: first take, reading the sheet music live...and he was hungover when he played it, like, wtf??? haha. Do you know he recently did a long interview with Rick Beato, here on KZbin.

I noticed dad didn't mention" Katy Lied." i was apprehensive myself because I enjoyed "Aja" and "The Royal scam" so much but the i listened to "Goucho". I loved it! And for about 3 years I listened to nothing else. One day my KZbin music put on a song called "Bad Sneakers". And that lead me to listen to " Katy Lied. Which is now my favorite album. I think you and your son can have a first time listen together.

they wanted the best . The drummer on the title track ( a former neighbor in Rochester NY) is Steve Gadd . the great Wayne Shorter on saxophone. Rochester hosts an International Jazz Festival each summer and with the Eastman School of Music has produced some accomplished musicians. Thanks

this is way cool, mindblowing, my first time hearing Steely Dan.. and the FIRST TRACK is used by MF DOOM as a sample on his debut album, Operation: Doomsday. I love that one classic album from an all-time great influenced another classic album by an all-time great. DOOM is one of the goat lyricists and most of his work is self-produced. you'll get requests for Madvillainy but you should def start with Doomsday considering the connection.. DOOM fucked with this record too. RIP.
