I have installed the brace kit and welded the plate on to the frame of my K5. It has not cracked or worsen since I installed Off Road Designs kit, it's worth the time, effort and money; in my opinion. I put a re-manufactured GM steering box and all Moog steering parts, it steers like my Cobalt. No slack or wondering.

You did all that effore and money to steer like your Chevy cobolt da fuq?

may the good Lord bless the guy who cane up with the ratchet. Piece of trivia do you know why bolts and nuts are different size? Back in yesteryear they could only afford one set of wrenches, if they were both the same size you could only hold one end, As times have progressed this is no longer an issue--tool sets are cheaper.

Eric are you afraid you'll just chase the problem somewhere else. To me it looks like that 3/8" plate will really beef it up, but just might crack in front or behind. Good luck.

All 80s frames came with that corner bracing, its not specific to just a 1-ton, and frames are all the same thickness in the gear box area, they all were prone to cracking there, the best way to do it is weld the side brace and bottom piece.
@offroadrecoveryteam7 жыл бұрын
I was referring to the gauge of steel they are formed from, the 1 tons are formed from a thicker gauge.

I think you outta just install a zipper on that front clip while you have it apart this time. Save you some time and work next time :)

why didn't get this box up the frame so you know it won't break again
@davidkinderman64927 жыл бұрын
so after the helper turns the wheel enough times is there a bleeder valve on the steering box that you break loose I've always had to deal with the air in the lines an the nasty squalling of the pump
@SawmillerSmith7 жыл бұрын
there's no bleeder valve
@offroadrecoveryteam7 жыл бұрын
The air gets purged into the fluid reservoir, where it then escapes.

Does this help with bump steering at all?
@offroadrecoveryteam5 жыл бұрын
No, the cure for bump steer on a old square body is a cross over steering upgrade.
@AdamCanFly5 жыл бұрын
recoveryteam that’s on my to do list for sure!
@dockmasterted7 жыл бұрын
Is that way better than boxing the frame?
@offroadrecoveryteam7 жыл бұрын
A lot of things bolted to the frame, and in the way. Boxing would be very difficult.

Very annoying intro, way too long! 3-5 seconds is better ;) Otherwise good video as always.

Your obviously;y an astute operator , I have to wonder did the wheel nearly fall off before you noticed the change in wheel attitude ..You might have caught that earlier had you been on the ball now your Dana front end is junk and you have taken the temper out of the hardened cone . I wonder what service life it has now ?
@davidgenthnerjr49957 жыл бұрын
I see GM made almost everything cheaper quality in the 80's and not just their truck frames.
@l337pwnage7 жыл бұрын
The only thing that's gotten higher quality is the seats and sound insulation. You drive a modern truck into a deep water hole, it's junk, you drive a '80's truck into a deep water hole, you dry it out and drive it home. They're basically just cars now for soccer moms. O, and don't drop your tool box in one of the modern aluminum boxes, it'll just fall right through and hit the ground, lol.
@0778drz1107 жыл бұрын
Are you implying that the dodge and ford frames were better? Because they weren't.
