I am glad to see the wrecker getting some TLC that is a true work horse and definitely needs some attention from time to time

Eric, must be nice to have so much knowledge on Auto Repair! I know you've been in the business for sometime. It's great when you can just look at a vehicle, and say " Yes, we can change that ", and go at it. Your content is great. I love watching, and can't wait to see Blondie complete!!!!!! Be Safe, and God Bless all of you!

Eric, the wrecker needs a "Spa Week"; pressure washed, lubed, etc... @9:29... When I want to lift the body, I use a hydraulic jack, under the frame (cribbed up on 4x4's, if necessary); I don't like bumper jacks/hi-lift jacks.
@paulhopkins46823 ай бұрын
It's the old bumper jack.from way back

You know the owner knows the weaknesses of their truck when they carry the spare parts in the glove box. When I go on long trips, I carry a spare transmission temperature sensor, a case of transmission fluid, and something to drain the transmission into.

Seems like I remember you saying you wanted to keep the little shackle bolts as an engineered weak link but with the repetitive breakage it would seem like you really need to upgrade to an Off Road Design “FUSH” bracket kit with 9/16 bolts.

Seat cover needs to put some rocks in her pockets while working that jack. I see that the trails will really take a toll on the equipment to where you are constantly having to check the wrecker over for minor and major repairs and adjustments. It shows your commitment to the hobby and the channel.

I had a 4 inch rough country lift on a 87 gmc PU. kept breaking bolts, even broke the shackle at the bolt hole. made new ones out of thicker metal used larger bolts, i had poly bushings, drilled them out for the larger bolts. never had another issue again.

Nice job guy's, im sure the Wrecker could use some more love ,but its hard cause you guys have to use it all the time. Im sure once Blondie Gets Online then Eric can work on the Square Body. Then you guy's will have 2 Wreckers and the Snow Cat. That will be AWESOME. Thanks for the video guy's can't wait for the next one.

Hey Eric And Mara Having a nice shop and the tools to do a job sure make it easier. If Mara is going to have her own wrecker, she really needs to understand how many things work. When she could not pull that jack handle down she needed a longer lever. I have four of those jacks. Three on rigs, one stays in the shop. Each one has a steel bar that slides inside the handle to use as an extension. Work Safe, Be Well
@briand013 ай бұрын
be careful the jack handle does not come back and bite you like mine did. I thought it broke my jaw. I threw it into the woods.

One thing about having vehicles that have to work hard for their owners is the maintenance and upkeep has to be done regularly or the can't work. Even sometimes when the maintenance it done they still fail simply because of the type of work and environment they have to work in. Not always fun and games for sure.
@billnorthington77253 ай бұрын
Hey Erik I have the permanent fix for you shackle bolt problem I was breaking the 2 or 3 every trip out so I bought a poly bushing kit for the spring eye and the frame eye and turned the inside of the bushing to accept the inner sleeve that is used in the rear spring and drilled my shackle out to these same size as the rear spring bolts so that way they match the same size in the rear springs as I'm using in the front I haven't broken a bolt in years now cheap easy fix.

As an after thought an ex girlfriend asked me why I called my high lift jack "The Dentist". A tap from the hammer showed her why I was so careful. Congrats on hitting 158 thousand subscribers!

Nice video!! Yup, machinery is always needing fixed. I know the feeling. Just found out the 4 wheel drive wasn't engaging on my 94 k1500. Turns out it was the 4 wheel drive engage solenoid. Have a new one Tues. Mara is doing a good job learning all about how to fix things. I had to laugh when she was hanging on the jack handle!! LOL!!!

In my experience, a little oil of grease will fix a sticking hi-lift jack mechanism. Of course it can also attract more dirt, but to me it is worth it.

I've noticed while watching this video, you do what other off roaders (KZbin) in the shop repairing rigs... You're shop is quiet, meaning no air tools running, compressor kicking on.... Just you and taking it apart and putting it back together by hand with actual hand tools... Old school wise....

Eric, do they make a double seal for these hubs? I worked in liquid fertilizer industry years ago and our shop foreman got a double seal for all the trailer axles. It basically had 2 rubber rings in one seal. NGK I think was the brand.
