Don't worry about saving those websites if you have AvPlan, like you do. That information is all in the APP!!!! Under the weather page. Including ship tins of other features from Wind Aloft. I have the professional version, so perhaps the basic VFR package doesn't include this? Not sure. Try to use the flying APP (such as AvPlan) as much as possible as you can quickly flick between pages, rather than flick between APPS. But if you want to flick between APPs, use the "four finger swipe" gesture. Also, you can overlay APPs in the one screen by opening an APP, then swiping up slowly to get the quick bar at bottom, then swipe and drag the second APP making an overlay split screen. Handy for Marine Pilot transfer and having marine traffic up at the same time as AvPlan.

If you are flying an approach, especially in IMC have the approach plate selected on your back up EFB. Speaking from experience. My iPad overheated and shut down half way down an RNAV approach. Having the approach quickly available on the backup iPad avoids having to go missed whilst you sort yourself out.
@StefanDrury5 жыл бұрын
Yeah backup plates/charts is a really important point. I didn't want to touch on that in this video, but it's legally required in most places and is just good airmanship. Thanks for sharing that story, and nice work having that backup available.

@StefanDrury5 жыл бұрын
That's awesome James, great to hear you're getting back into flying. We all have breaks, I logged one flight back in 2010 due to some personal/financial reasons, breaks are not uncommon. I don't mount my iPad in the cockpit, but I stow it for takeoff and landing. In flight I keep it on my lap or under my kneeboard if the sun is shining into the cockpit (I can direct a vent from the air-conditioning on it to keep it cool).

An hour later found that triple tapping the home/on button turns the iPad the night mode on and off. Just thought I would mention it in case like me, you accidentally tap the home button three time.

There is one other thing I do and that is have an email account dedicated for all my aviation needs rather than my actual personal account, this is to keep the IPAD purely for aviation. i treat my flight time as a business, they are seperate to all my personal accounts including bank accounts, keeping an ipad puerly for aviation is a great way of doing it. most of us have smart phones and or other tablets that can be used for the everyday things. I do like using the ipad because my partner and i can message each other via imessage without having to take out my phone. a friend of mine created something for my partner that is really simillar to SAR time, if i have not checked in at my estimated landing time, a workflow will trigger to my partner to check Flight24 if the plane I am flying has ADS-B to check if i am still flying, if i am in within data range i can with a simple push of a button to extend for a further 30min or have a pre made message stating i am still flying and at the same time send Lat and Long of the location that it was sent. Technology has progresed so much and a lot of the tools are free to use. went on a bit off track but i wanted to share what i do in some cases.

It's always better to get the cellular version. I don't think the wifi version can track your progress in flight. I got the cellular version and don't even need a sim in it.
