A few people mentioned the distance planner tool is only available to premium (paid) users of the Windy app. My bad, I didn't notice that. I do pay for a premium subscription to Windy mainly because it's an awesome product and I want to support the developers. But you can absolutely get loads of useful and accurate weather information from just the free version. But my apologies if that is confusing from the video. Thanks everyone who mentioned that 🙏 stef

Be very careful with an iPad on the flight deck. (Or any loose objects). A Chinook went down not so long back, when the pilot monitoring dropped an iPad down on to the anti-torque pedals. When pilot flying applied pedal input , the pedals jammed. The PM could not reach down to retrieve the iPad due their harness. It was all over in a few seconds. Fly safe - learn from the mistake of others; and not your own. Take care. Great channel Stefan.

Hi Stefan, nice overview! For weather, I find Aeroweather very helpfull to get (and decode) METARs and TAF's for airports in my vicinity. When I go old-school with map, compass and stopwatch (my ipad failed on me a couple of times due to overheating so I like to be prepared), I like E6B Pathfinder to help with calculation of wind correction for headings and groundspeed. for my navplan.

Great software tips. Request: I’d love you to do three separate KZbin videos. Preflight, In-flight, and Post-flight. Each video from start to finish of that particular leg, what you do during that stage, including the tools you use and why. I think that would be helpful for me. As I’ve spoken with other pilots, we have different ways of approaching each mission stage. I found your process to be very organized, and I think we would find that very helpful

You omitted an app preference for log books. The data should include breakdowns of VMC, IMC/IFR, day/night, PIC/PM, student/instructor/check pilot, touch-and-goes, full stops, takeoff/landing airfields, with aircraft types/tail numbers and maintenance squawks. A great feature would be to automatically back up the data to the cloud, especially if the tablet is damaged, lost, or stolen.
