Very nice chamfer tool. The one you built years ago out of a router that mounts to the side of your work bench inspired me to build one like that. It has worked very nice for years but I see how this one will work on small parts and internal edges. Thanks for all the informational videos

Interesting as always! I especially like your idea to set the depth of cut with gauge blocks (3:50). In practice it would actually work opposite to the way you described - larger blocks will make a shallower cut - but it’s a nice idea that I expect will find a lot of applications in my shop.

Stephan, Marvellous to see your entry into the CHAMFER WARS! With Robin's, Tom's and now your beautiful entry I wonder who else is game enough to step into the ring? Thank you for sharing your design. I hope that you don't mind, but I intend to replicate it. I saw Robin's version, but it's a little more complicated than what I need. Yours is just right. One thing that I will do different is the material for the base. I'll use aluminum and hard anodize it. It's much lighter than steel and provides better wear resistance. It's not as good as a nitrite coating, but it's fairly durable.

Very nice tool enhancement. I was thinking of using one of those pencil grinders as a spindle for small endmills for aluminum on the cnc. The kW output seems adequate, but the manufacturer warned of over clamping. Is your clamp torqued to the "just enough level"? Can you report what grit you use on your diamond grinder wheel used for the sharp cutting edges on carbide? And finally, I see new cad and imagine come new cam. I got bobcad to agree in writing to allow me to show their stuff on youtube. What is your thinking on cad/cam now? thank you.

A spiral taper or a simple threaded collar on the clamp end would allow you to adjust the chamfer (btw this is pronounced 'Sham fer'' from the French Ch sound) by twisting the tool in the clamp , you could even calibrate the collar.
@xenonram4 жыл бұрын
Actually pronouncing it "shamfer" is incorrect. I thought it was shamfer for the longest time until someone corrected me, and I checked the dictionary. Google dictionary, dictionary dot com, and Merriam-Webster all day chamfer is pronounced with a "ch-" as in chalk. The pronunciation examples on all of them say it like chalk too, and there are no alternate pronunciations. So it's not disputed, it is definitively pounced with a "ch-" as in chalk.

Great work as always Stefan. You are debating if you should send it out for Night Riding? Wow! A talking, intelligent, crime fighting chamfer tool with flashing LEDs that saves you from the bad guys at the last moment. "Well that was a close shave Stefan!" Ahh. Nitriding! I'm disappointed. Night Riding sounds so much cooler and would have been quite a departure for the channel. Stefan fights criminally bad machinists with the help of an air powered tool. Well, it would be easy to cut them down to size!! You could also show them the error of their ways (measured in microns, naturally). Then they would have more accurately leveled lathes. Ways. You know, prismatic ways on a lathe bed? No? I'll show myself out...

I'm curious on the concentricity of the guide pin due to the silver solder. How much far is the pin displaced from the tiny amount of silver solder between it and the guide finger?
@anathaetownsend18944 жыл бұрын
The guide pin is attached to a triangular piece that is attached to the end of the largest component. Concentricity of the pin is dependent only on how closely you match the pin to the bit when you secure that piece.
